Frame hole plugs - question

I see on some accessory sites a set of plastic plugs that go in the holes that can be seen in the rear wheel well.   I appreciate the incremental aesthetic improvement and assume they might serve some purpose in keeping salt from the winter roads out of those spaces.

Is that what they’re for?  Would they trap moisture if used for looks only and cause rust problems, or if installed when dry any condensation would be minimal?

any sane person use these?

I have them and when they go in it is a tight fit so I would be surprised if moisture could get in at least at those points .

I've had them before as well.  No issues with moisture.  As stated they are a tight fit.

I plan on buying a couple hundred - they’re cheap - and posting in the accessories/mods that because they streamline the airflow in each rear wheel well, I’m now getting an extra 2 mpg.   And I’ll sell them for triple what I will pay for them.   Not including postage.

dont tell anybody.

False.  The lost lift from air rushing through the rear axle air tunnels negates any proposed gains in fuel economy.  In fact the increased frame rail drag will definitely falsify your claims.

But that’s harder to explain.  I’ll have the cash in my pocket when everyone finally understands your point!

i think I need to cut you in...

if you look those frame rails actually have have smaller holes in them in some spots so to plugs don't completely seal up the rails.

My man qwank.   Spoiling a good party.

its only the little holes that DONSTAR has researched and found  plugging THEM will increase the frame well drag.  It’s a balance.

you want in too, dont you?

I did it.   I paid $100 ($6 really) for four frame plugs.  It was raining but I took a pic.  While I was driving, my traction was better, my gas mileage was notably better and I had no Chevy shake. (I drive a gmc. But it doesn’t shake). All the plugs. PM me and I’ll think about selling you a set.

Oh.  I think it looks finished too.
