I've recently acquired my Dads old truck when he purchased his new GMC. His old truck is a 2001 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3. I've realized recently when driving it around that I have gotten used to the Bluetooth feature in my '14 Silverado. What aftermarket radios have y'all installed that work fairly well that won't break the bank or in other words a max of $300 as I don't want to spend a fortune on something that may increase the chances of being broken in and stolen. I love this truck and learned to drive in this truck so sentimental value is playing a huge part for me wanting to drive it more often. Plus, it is a sh** ton of fun to drive compared to the newer ones.

I recently just put a new radio in mine. Bought it off Crutch field for 79 bucks. Nothing fancy - but has Bluetooth capabilities. Bought 4 speakers as well and walked out for 200 bucks.

 

I dont have any fancy screens on mine - but I knew that going in I did not want that. Installation was pretty easy and Crutchfield was super helpful when I had one question about a wiring schematic of theirs.

I've never done an aftermarket radio in a vehicle before since forgive a noob. I've read that these year range have an unusual din? Would that require any workarounds? I've never really done any electrical work before.

Crutchfield is the place to go for a radio if you want service after the sale.  I put an Alpine in mine 8 years ago and love it.

I'm not above purchasing all proper equipment to make it work. It sounds like there's lots of radios that'll work so now I just have to choose one.

I cannot recommend Crutchfield enough. Not only did they help with that question post the point of sale but leading up to it provided me with everything I needed to buy to make it hook up directly to my trucks current harness.

 

It took one trip to Home Depot to get some butt splices to wire the unit to the adapter, but for like 20 bucks or something they would do that for you at their facility. Literally all you have to do it take your dash off and drop the radio in. Its a nice added convenience.

 

Ontop of that they have installs for almost every make and model/trim. The installation sheet they gave me for my 06 was dead on down to the bolt locations and the sizes of each one. You may pay more for a digital display there but they'll guarantee it'll fit and will help you over the phone (even on a sunday!)

I know it's  been a while but I got around to changing the radio and forgot to post on here. If only I was smart enough to get the part number for the ac controls so fan speeds 1 and 2
