I think you should still contact GM... at the very least to just complain and hopefully they would document yet another paint process issue.  They can’t ignore this forever.  The previous generation work vans... they have major peeling issues.  If not GM issue, it’s GM paint supplier issue.  The base coat (Or primer, not sure what their paint process is) is not bonding properly to the ecoat.  I don’t know what the issue is but they need to figure it out.

I don’t know if I regret making my attempt to fix it.  I’m more mad that it happened in the first place.  I truly am curious if this is only a white issue or if it’s another color.  I’ve looked around in parking lots to see if others have this issue.

It’s also hard for me to give you feedback about whether or not you should have it repainted.  As you said... if it fixes your current item, will it happen else where?  It’s a tough call, and I really wish you the best with what you decide.

I’ve had this thought that I could two tone paint it... the entire top of the cab with a plastidip black.  But I am really nervous that the plastidip will peel the the paint more.  It seemed to peel off just like an eggshell.

for me, I’m just going to keep driving it and try not to worry about it anymore.  What makes me really mad is I really wanted to get the 3.0L diesel.  But I’m at that point where I don’t want to reward GM with anymore of my money.  I have mixed feelings......

Thank you for your feedback, I will keep you posted on any progress...

This is caused by a small rock or road debris hitting the paint. Not enough to chip it, but enough to make an impression or crack in the paint, after that happens its a matter of time before it lifts and peels. My 2010 did this and I had the whole box resprayed in 2014 under the (6 month expired) Symtech paint warranty. After that I saw the paint lifting above the windshield so I traded the truck in. My 2014 WT has peeled about 4" up from the wheel well, starts with a rock chip from the tires. You have to relentlessly touch up the paint on these trucks because it is so thin. That's why you wont see me rolling around with -44 offsets because I have been down this road and you shouldn't have to repaint a 5 year old truck. But its the name of the game now, build them cheaper and charge more. Let the owners put the elbow grease in and more profit to GM. The days of thick oil paint are dead.

I don’t know.  Here’s a few others I just searched on YouTube.  Guess it’s not just white

and I distinctly recall seeing one video where a guy was literally vacuuming the paint right off the body.  Vacuuming.  It’s crazy.  While there may be some rock chips that occur, the paint shouldn’t then flake off like a hard boiled egg shell.  It should be adhered to the surface.  Something is wrong.

In fact I guess this issue isn’t limited to Silverado or Sierra. Look at this one

I also have 2 areas peeling...one on the roof and on the front of the hood.  Purchased used this year with 70,000 miles and I never used a pressure washer.  Roof area started first then just a couple days ago peeled on front of hood.  (Did see a bubbling effect there soon after the purchase).  Anyone get a positive response from Chevy even after the warranty?

Just want to let everyone know GM still is doing a terrible job of painting new trucks. I have a 2017 bought September of 2017  and may of this year paint started peeling off. It is the Iridescent Pearl Tri Coat. GM/Chevrolet/Dealer all want to do nothing about it. It is an on going issue they need to correct. Should not have a truck with over 50k sticker and require a repaint after 3 years 8 months.

Once it starts it just keeps getting worse. I sanded, cleaned, primed and painted these spots on mine just to see what happens before I got a new paint job. Yesterday I was going to repair another spot on a different door and took the air hose to blow off the dust from sanding and about a 10” spot of paint came off the door. It peels off like the paint isn’t even sticking to the truck. Can’t believe GM has never taken responsibility for these paint jobs.

    • The truck is a 1995 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, 4.3 VIN "W" engine. :cracks knuckles:   On a whim - because I needed a headache - this truck was for sale so I stopped to take a look. Doesn't run. Well, it does, but barely. Long crank, choppy idle, bad misfire(s), it REEKS of fuel. I can DO this..I'm thinking. Diamond in the rough. One owner until last year. A young guy is selling it, he bought it 6 months ago. It stranded him more than once, he's got a newborn. It was in the shop 10 days ago and he "thinks" they said it needs a new fuel injection system. He can't put any more money into it, needs it gone. I was thinking of upgrading my Macbook, which is a total want, not a need. For less than the price of a new laptop I can have fun for months tinkering on this truck and enjoying it. I'm taking this truck home. The guy was beyond thrilled, his wife was there, she thanked me profusely, I could tell they were hurting. They seemed like good people in a bind.   Some parts, a wash, maybe a set of tires, and I can have a few months of fun and then turn it for beer money (or the next project).   Sure enough, there's a work order from a shop last week in the INCHES of paperwork on this truck dating back to when the first owner bought it. They put a new distributor in it, fuel injection work describes basically opening the plenum and putting it back together. He said he couldn't afford any more work so he had them button it up and that's when he put it up for sale.   I'm not well versed in 4.3. I did discover 1995 uses the 1992-1995 SCPI "Spider" injector which is riddled with issues from splitting lines, clogged or cracked poppet valves and plastic spider legs that crumble over time. Cool. I'll just order me a ne---. Oh, the auto parts store doesn't have it? Rock Auto doesn't have it. eBay? $$$$$$ for used. These are UNAVAILABLE period end of story unless you know "a guy" who's still got one in a box somewhere.   Can't upgrade to the '96-'04 injector, it's a different plenum, wiring/pinout and sensor config.   There are a few kinda "know a guy" -guy rebuild services for these injectors out there for about $350. Okay, Okay... I'd like to know if anyone has used them? Anyone got a lead on these crappy 92-95 spiders?   I also don't want to send MY spider to Narnia and back without knowing if that's truly the problem. I guess I'll need to pull apart the plenum and do some digging.   I was also thrown for a loop. This 1995 model year truck has an OBD-II connector. The interface is decidedly not OBD-II. I can read and reset trouble codes and view live data, but there's not a lot of data. Like misfire count and on what cylinder, that's not there. It's OBD-1.5.   Nothing is ever easy. Now it makes sense why this guy wanted to disappear this thing for cheap. I'm guessing the shop told him the injector is toast, the part is unobtainable and they're not going to sort sending the thing to a rando offering rebuild service on craigslist, and the kid likely can't be without a working car for 3 weeks even if they'd facilitate that.   Experience with these early SCPI's? Stories? Things to check? Sympathy? (..Nah...)   This can sit until I sort it. But I haven't had a problem with a vehicle I couldn't easily solve in a long time.
    • I have four that read by the dash 8 to 10% better than miles/pump calculations and I have one that is spot on.
    • The average lifespan of automobiles on the road is increasing - here's why
    • Typically it is the Torque Converter, I have a 2.7L Trail Boss and between 25-65 MPH at 1300-1500 rpms under light throttle it has a shudder which I almost consider and bobble or a gargle sound. They replaced my TC but it did not help any, others say it has fixed their issues. It has been back twice now with no fix after.
    • Still $3.01 with even more places at this price
