It WOULD be nice to get rid of the DEF/DPF systems on tbe HDs though!

You got that right. Try running a business with over 10 class 8 vehicles running DEF. It is hard for the trucks to make enough to cover their repair bills, let alone pay it's own payment, fuel, wages and still have enough to feed me. When these flaming pieces of garbage showed up in 2012 you could not get 2 weeks of run time without going down for a DEF related CEL. I am in a cold climate which makes it a lot worse. It infuriates me to know I am playing ball with California smog levels way up here in Northern Canada where I can't hit my neighbors house with a .22 if I wanted to. If we delete them, they still pass emissions, but then your competition phones the Ministry of Environment and they say hook it back up or pay a $50,000 fine.

No way around that BS here if you are in business. Really has made trucking hard over the last 6 years. It is also the sole reason I refuse to buy a Duramax diesel since 2012. The last 2 HD trucks I have bought 6L gas engines to avoid problems in the field.

The ol conspiracy theory about how they are holding back, come on.

he’s been working on that for like a decade now and still hasn’t released it into production.

if a manufacturer could engineer that system to work, it would be out. Any manufacturer would kill babies to implement a fully functional camless internal combustion engine.

They have the abilities to make this stuff, and have for years.  Sure, perhaps costs or materials can delay, but they have and can make all sorts of crap.

Look at some items that are standard now that GM had tested or prototyped or offered YEARS ago.  Radar cruise control, passive entry, power locking tailgates, LED and HID lighting, push button start, night vision, Direct Injection, cylinder deactivation, electric cars, the list goes on.  GM had electric cars from the 1960s, night vision in the 90's on Cadillac, which then disappeared for a decade or more and came back, cylinder deactivation isn't a new concept at all, including the hated Cadillac V8-6-4...look how long it took HID lighting to take off.  There's still cars that don't have LED interior lighting that are top of the line trim levels.

Look at the safety features to. Notice that lots of the pre collision, blind spot, lane departure, cross traffic, and other fun and exciting items are all pay-walled?  You have to go to an LTZ, or add 3 other packages worth $5000 to get the $2000 in safety gear.  Things that are heading towards government mandate I might add.  And backup cameras.  T1 trucks have two options, a standard and an HD one.  For what!?!?  Why not just make all of them the HD one so they don't suck?

A camless engine that’s reliable? They actually do not have that ability.

I doubt that they would do away with anything.  The problem is a lot of people that own a truck,  don't need a truck, and they care about fuel mileage. They want their truck to get the same mileage as the car they traded in for the truck.  I wish they would get rid of it, but don't think that will happen.

That's not quite true.

I use my truck for pleasure, getting groceries, towing my boat, towing work trailers, hauling tools and equipment. And I'm not the only one.

For me it's an all around vehicle and I care about fuel economy. I realize that a truck can't compete with a four banger Civic in means of fuel efficiency, but I'm happy that my truck gets good mileage.

so long
