New Keyed Ignition System on 2019 Models

Wouldn't it have been easier to just relocate the key area to be kept from getting hit by ones appendages?   The key was on the dash of my 65 impala.  Worked just fine.

If memory serves here, the key in the column with the obnoxious rotating cylinder to lock the column was intended as an anti-theft device in the late 60's. As far as a button to shut the ignition off, what's the point? If you still need the key and the button doesn't start it also, why bother? Maybe I'm missing something here?

I'll have to check with my grand daughter again to straighten me out.:sigh:

It isn't a button but the lock itself you would have to push in to turn off the engine. So when you turn the key back to turn off the engine, you also have to push in the key.  This way it can't be turned off just from your knee hitting the key and turning it to off like on the Camaro. That is why they had a recall on the Camaro switch blade key fob and just gave you a key and a separate fob.  Individuals were turning their car off while driving by hitting the key with their knee.

I agree. Pretty lame. I think GM's intention here is to cover their bases after that massive ignition recall of millions of vehicles and handing out $millions of dollars in lawsuits. They're being extra cautious. They don't want another debacle like that!

I don't know why so many people have issues with keys in the ignition. I had to take my grand am KEYS in for a recall. They made the hole smaller and put a tiny ring on for me. wow, what a solution. All because some people hang their entire purse off the key and it caused some to shut off when driving.

This is just the new solution to a problem only a few have.

Ok I see the point you guys are making. But I was under the impression they were crappy switches that moved too easily.
