I have a 2016 High Country and cannot find the keyslot to disable the front passenger airbag.  My truck was initially sold in Canada so I am wondering if it doesnt exist.  I have found a few subtle differences so far.  Can anyone point out where it might be?

Thanks,

Bob

Such a key slot does not exist on K2XX trucks as far as I am aware.

Excuse my Silverado newbie-ness, what does K2XX mean?  My owners manual mentions this is on the passenger dash end-cap.  Do not see anything.

Your owners manual says that there is a disable switch?

If you don’t have the on/off switch on your dash, then your passenger seat has the passenger sensing system which enables the airbag if a properly seated passenger is present. If no passenger is present, no airbag deployment. Some lower trim levels, WT, etc. may have the on/off switch, but I have never seen one in a K2. And K2XX is the assembly code for the platform on which your truck is built. ‘99-‘06 trucks were built on the GMT800 platform, ‘07-‘13 trucks on the GMT900 platform, ‘14-‘18 trucks on the GMT K2XX platform, the new platform for ‘19 and beyond is GMT T1XX. I tell you all that only because you will see those codes thrown around on the forum as a reference to a certain generation of trucks.

Thanks for the reply.

The owners manual on for the 2016 on P81 shows this manual switch to disable the airbags for passenger.  I guess my High Country trim model doesnt have the option to disable passenger airbag.  Not sure I need it, just was looking for it after reading the Owners Manual.

Lots of gadgets to digest on the truck, almost to overload point.   Wonder how non-tech savvy new owners can even deal with the infotainment system!

Thanks,

Bob

I think it’s only on regular cab models since no back seat to put a baby seat.

When you turn your vehicle on, look up at the overhead console near your garage door opener buttons. Between your front overhead cabin light switches, if you see a indicator light come on which has a picture of someone sitting in a seat with airbags or the words “passenger air bag”, then you have the sensor in your passenger seat which will automatically turn on/off the airbag. That indicator light will tell you whether or not your passenger airbag is on or off at any given time.

I searched up and down for the key switch before I read further into the manual and found this info.

Hey everyone, I have been following this thread.  I have a 2017 Chevy Silverado 3500HD LT Crew Cab.  I did not have the air bag shut off switch or the indicator.  I researched the parts for the switch, indicator, and an SDM module that is used on the regular/double cab (which has the switch).  The indicator now works but unfortunately I have the airbag light on.  I dropped off my truck at the dealership to have the VIN programmed into the SDM module but they are running into a few issues.  I'm pretty sure the regular cab and double cab does not have the passenger sensing system and just utilizes the on-off switch to turn on/off the passenger air bag.  I'm thinking of either trying a different place to program the SDM or try plugging in a passenger sense system (seatbelt and passenger seat pressure sensure).  We'll see, but I'm bound to make this work.

SDM Part #: 13507217

Shut off switch: 22831601

Passenger Airbag status display: 84059831

passenger side panel for shut off switch: 23343670

Double cabs have the sensor.  My dog weighs 60 lbs.  Ask me how I know.

Thanks.  So it looks like there were two versions, one with the sensor and one without.  I purchased the wrong SDM (13507217) which was meant for a system with the passenger presence system and over head air bags.  I am trying a different SDM (13507221) which is meant for a truck without the overhead airbags.  Hoping this will work and the on-off switch will work.
