Working on purchasing a 2018

So long story short I’m in the market to buy a 2018 LT double cab with the All Star Package. I found one for $33,236 before tax. I feel this is a pretty great deal. My buddy also said he could get me a code for the friends and family discount so that should be another $1500 off. The truck is exactly what I’ve been looking for. The only problem is it’s 2.5 hrs away. I’m trying to get my local dealers to price match but so far I’ve had no luck.

The only concerns I have are 1 driving a new vehicle that far on the highway and not breaking it in properly I know not to use cruise control and vary the speeds, but it’s still a concern I have. Also the only reason I still have my current vehicle is because I was able to build a relationship with my local Subaru dealer and they were able to fight for me to get the engine replaced under warranty.

Have any of you had similar luck building a good relationship with a dealer you didn’t buy from.

Thanks,

Alec

I purchased my 2014 in Pennsylvania in Sept of 2014, then moved to Illinois in October.  First Chevy dealer I went to had a service department full of know-it-alls that I promptly stopped doing business with.  The dealer I chose to go to after that has been awesome.  So good, in fact, I just traded my 2014 for a 2018 with them.  I have a single person in the service department I work with and I like and trust him.  SO short story long, yes, you can build relationships with dealers you didn't buy from.

And don't worry about the drive home on a new motor, just shift it back and forth between M5 and M6 occasionally (if it's a 6 speed) to force the RPM's to change and vary your speed while driving and you should be fine.

*EDIT* Just realized you are in Pittsburgh.  I lived in Cranberry when I bought my 2014.  Worked at West Penn Hospital at the time.

Thanks for the reply. That’s crazy how small the world is sometimes. I know exactly where that’s at. You moved pretty far.

Do you you have any experience buying an extended warranty from a different dealer than you bought the truck from? Would this give them more reason to fight for you if warranty issues do arise?

I picked up my LT All Star this past weekend and traded in my 2014 LT.  It was a pretty decent deal. Dealers will advertise these trucks for sale with all incentives included. You obviously will not qualify for every incentive. If you can actually manage to get them to sell you one for $14,000 below MSRP you are getting a decent deal IMHO. They have great nationally advertised incentives through September 10. $500 Labor Day Cash, $5,000 Total Cash Allowance, $3,000 Price Reduction Below MSRP, $1,750 Trade Assistance and $750 Option Package Discount. You also have to finance with GM Financial. This is on the 2018 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab LT ALL STAR 4WD ...a 50K MSRP vehicle. I ended up giving up incentives for financing with GM because their interest rates for people with stellar credit suck. I ended up going with another bank and getting 3.9% as opposed to 6.9%.I'm in Florida so I can't speak to your area but dealers shouldn't vary much in pricing. I found the biggest one and went there. They move a ton of Chevy pickups. The small dealers have less selection.

For service, pick a dealer with a good reputation. You may have to drive a little to get there but it's worth it. Some sites like dealerrater and edmunds have useful info. Good luck.

I bought my ‘15 Sierra from Wright Buick/GMC in Wexford and when it was time to turn it in I marched right in there and got my ‘18 Sierra too. They’ve been great. Across the street is Baierl Chevrolet and we bought my sons Trax there and they were really good to work with too. My next door neighbor bought his last two vehicles from Baierl as well with no issues. Maybe give them a call?

I bought a Kia at Baerl once.  Super high pressure sales for the extended warranties and undercoating and scotchguard and etc.  I left the place feeling dirty.

I bought my 2014 at Crivelli.  The place was brand new and they cut me a hell of a deal.  Would have been worth the drive to get service there, but I moved to Illinois before I needed it.

I have never purchased an extended warranty, so I can't help you with that.

Well that’s not good. Nothing worse than leaving a dealership and feeling like you need to go home and shower just to wash the dirty salesmen vibe off.

To clarify, this was at the Baerl Kia store on 19.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll definitely call those dealers as well. I’m in contact with the dealer in Ohio and they said I qualified for the price of 33,236 before tax so the out the door price is $35,846. That doesn’t include the friends and family discount my buddy can get me or the new grad discount. I’m not sure if they can apply the new grad discount because it doesn’t work with all incentives.

I’m also working with Day Chevrolet to see if they can match it. I went in there Saturday and I was really impressed with their sales people. There was no pressure I told them I wanted to look at the Silverado, Colorado, and then I planned on going to look at the Toyota Tacoma. They had no problem showing me both vehicles and then suggested I go take the Tacoma for a drive before making a final decision then if I decided to buy a Chevy come back and we could talk prices then.

Yeah, even better, it was one of the Baierl daughters that closed the deal.  She was visibly p*ssed that I wasn't buying into any of that overpriced crap.

I saw Day Chevy's all over the city, you couldn't miss that crazy yellow and orange sticker.  They were obviously doing something right.

Exactly! They must be doing something right for people to put those bumper stickers on in the 1st place. They don’t look like the usual subtle dealership badges that you see. But I could be wrong. Those DAY stickers look to be deliberately placed there! [emoji6]

OP, sometimes certain incentives and/or finance rates won’t work when combined with a Friends and Family discount. Just depends on what they have going on at the the time. good luck and let us know what happens on your quest!

I definitely will keep you guys updated. At least the price so far seems fair in Ohio. I just really would like to do business with Day since they’ve been nice so far. I think they changed them to a black plastic decal that sticks out now. Hopefully I can get them to remove that if I do buy there.

I went 2 weeks ago 10 hours to get the truck I wanted.  My local dealer doesn't have in 19 on his lot yet much less a 3500 CC LWB SRW Duramax!!!  I almost left with out buying it due to dealer adding aftermarket bumpers!!!  But after some get up and walk out the door times, we were able to make a deal on my truck.  Just because you drive 2-3 hours to look at a truck does not mean you are forced to buy it if its not the way you want it at the price point you want to be at walk away they are building new trucks everyday and you will find what you want.  By the way I am friends with the owner of the local dealership and when he saw my truck he called and asked me where I got it and what I paid for it and then said he could not have beat the price, but he knows that all the service work will be preformed at his shop due to him having a great staff of truck guys and not one but two Duramax experts.  :jester:

The truck you bought is the holy grail of trucks, imo!  Pics please.
