Diablew Help Transmission??

I absolutely hate the way my 2018 shifts. it's got the 8-speed trans and it clunks when downshifting. I've taken it to the dealer 3 times now and they say "its within spec." I was looking to get diablew tuning to see if it could help with how the RPM ranges are, etc.. so the shift points aren't so brutal (I know the 8spd can't be tuned). So in saying that, did anyone that was having issues, get a tuner and it help out?? Just wanting to see before I get rid of it

There is nothing you can do with the 8 speeds trust me. They require a hardware mod and can’t be tuned. I have the hyper tec tuner. Was on the phone with them for over a hour seeing if there will ever be a tune for the 8 speeds. I’m not saying they never will be able to be tuned but it’s not like the 6 speeds.

I tried the throttle response tune didn’t do much not sure if you can even do the RPM or anything more without the trans side. On the hyper tec 2000 you don’t have a lot of options on the 8 speed trans. I did reg fuel tune and throttle but nothing really diff with the shifting.

ugh well thanks for letting me know. I was hoping that a custom tune might help out some but it's not looking good

Did you check with your dealership to see if there were any updates available for your trans. My 2018 6.2 had a update available for the ECU, and a improved shifting calbration update for the TCM. It's worth looking into. You can also check on

The 17-18 8speed trans can be tuned with the tcm in the vehicle, but not with a handheld tuner, as of now.  You’ll have to take it to a speed/tuning shop.

so for the people that do have this issue and have the latest software on the trans, are they just dealing with it? I'm trying to decide if I can deal with it or just need to go ahead and trade it in

Before doing any tuning on my 6 speed I would manually turn off grade braking by holding the tow/haul button for 5-6 seconds. Not sure if you can do this on your 8 speed but it was a noticeable improvement. Doesn’t beat a tune but it certain a nice no-cost immediate solution.

I am just dealing with it I love the truck so I figured if I trade it maybe the next truck whatever make may not have trans issues but other issues.

Waterfowler41 thank you for that. I was wanting to turn that off, so maybe that will help diagnose it.

Jaychevy81 I'm trying to figure out if I want to get something else (looking at a RAM), or sell it, get a more economical car, and a beater truck. I drive this back and forth to work (about 50 miles a day), so I'm still trying to see what I want to do

    • Correct.  2019-2020 are serviced by a different p/n.  19420611.   The recall engines 2021-2024 are serviced with 12740076.     What the difference is between the two, I'm not sure, but 2019-2020 only show 19420611 as the replacement engine p/n.
    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
    • you might read through the info on gmupfitter.com for your truck, to find a good power source.
    • Melling I believe is/was the OEM on the lifters who explored this problem some years ago. The white paper they generated on the topic indicated two items of note when I read it. 1.) They only fail on the switch. Prevent the switch, prevent the failure. 2.) The majority fail due to deposits messing up the timing of that switch. Anyway that's what I got from it.    Mine have always been active, 195K+ now, and my oil maintenance is surgically clean.    Of course this assumes good parts. That is no heat treat issue or machining flaws. I get comfortable that these issues are in the rearview mirror by about 30K. IMHO naturally.
