Remote engine start failure with flashing CEL

Hey guys....

Hope all's well with you all. I'm having a bit of an odd issue...and I don't really know how to address it seeing that my dealership already has failed on two attempts. I'm sorry but this will be a bit of a long read. I appreciate your time and would like to thank you all in advance for your time and input.

I have a 2016 Sierra Denali with a supercharged 6.2 motor. Literally since the past month I have been facing a bit of an odd issue. Only during a cold start, if I try to fire up the truck using remote engine start, the truck fires up, runs barely for 10 seconds and then switches off. If I try to start it again using the remote it does not. Then when I get into the truck and start the truck by key, the engine fires up immediately and within a few seconds the stability control light starts flashing along with the check engine light. Soon enough the stability control light goes away but the check engine light remains flashing for a little longer after which even that goes away.

However if I have driven the truck and the engine is warm, then everything including remote engine start works fine. This happens only with cold starts. So initially it didn't bother me too much. After a little while the truck would do the same as mentioned above, however now the check engine light decides to stay and it's solid, not flashing anymore. When that happened I figured I have something at hand and now can take it to the dealership for them to run a scan and see what the issue is. Please bear in mind, during all the above mentioned errors or anything at all, the truck has been idling and driving just fine. No issues/problems can or have been felt or seen physically.

At this point I took the truck to my dealership who ran the diagnostic scan and gave me my truck back saying some hose from the supercharger was loose and so was one of the coil cables. They returned the truck after clearing the error and apparently fixing what they claimed was wrong, and everything at the time seemed fine. Next morning, back to the same story....remote engine start failed after running for 10 seconds and then the check engine light along with the stability light kept flashing and then both of them went away. I went back to my dealership however they were like there are no errors so we can't help since there are no errors.

Now again this morning I tried remote start which failed again and back came the check engine light which is solid and has stayed. But again, fortunately or unfortunately...the truck physically isn't giving any problems....no rough idling....no admissible misfires...nothing...it's running just as good as any other day. Any idea or suggestions as to what I can or should do?

I look forward to your feedback.

Thanks again

Sound like you might have a mis fire on cold starts throwing the cel light which disables remote start.

Yes sel light with affect the remote start. I lost on the Stability control.

Missing a lot of important details. What supercharger and who tuned it with what?

Sounds as simple and you fuel tables are off you cold start or ECT. tunes are great but temp out side changes and it is possible to have some clean up work to do.

As they say it's boost season, my map config was fighting my MAF/map or Baro. And causing all types of issues. 2 minute fix in tuning. Also the breakout is a must have on these supercharger system.

As far as the dealer saying there are no codes is 100% BS. the BCM/ECM/TCM store all the codes. I mean it saves EVERYTHING.

I would get the code numbers first and then take to you tuner. Keep us posted!

The modifications were carried out by a speed shop that I go to. It's just that my tuner is on vacation. Either way, that was my last resort...I guess I have to just wait it out till he's back. Would it be ok to drive around for another 10 days more or less with the current conditions?

Do you have a wide band installed and visible. If so yes. However I would bring the engine up to whatever the temp was set at and watch the idle in park. Should be around the 160 or 180 mark if I remember right. Again a cheap way to help would be a breakout.
I'm guessing you dont own a HPT or that your tune is locked or you dont have it.
If you did you can post it on HPT and have the issue resolved if tune same day usually.
Just some ideas.

I have no experience with the forced induction stuff and tuning so I can’t speculate regarding those systems. One thing that popped to mind is your battery. Perhaps it’s going bad but after driving for a while it charges enough to fix the issue. Then after sitting it drops voltage and causes the issues you’re having.
