Anyone have or have added a ‘Pop & Lock’ to a camper shell or tonneau cover?

I have an ‘18 Sierra with the factory tailgate electric lock, my Leer camper shell has a Pop & Lock on it and I wired it into the two wires that operate the factory tailgate lock solenoid.

After doing this the camper shell locks with the remote but the tailgate does not, if I unhook the camper lock then the tailgate will work correctly again.

With the camper lock hooked up, the tailgate lock does try to lock but doesn’t seem to have enough power to cycle the lock.

I have been trying to get assistance from Pop & Lock for over a month now and they are completely incompetent when it comes to customer service follow up, almost the absolute worst I’ve ever experienced!

Any advice? TIA

I wonder if its taking away to much voltage and amperage from the other system to where one cant operate correctly. May have to use a relay on the tonneau unit so all its getting is a signal from the factory unit.

.. use a relay to power the new lock with the tailgate for the trigger.. you can tap 12v from the trailer plug

Thanks for the responses, I wondered about a relay too but wasn’t sure how that would work since there are only the two wires. Would I use one relay or two?

I’m not knowledgeable on the technology or terminology but I assume that neither is a standard ground wire on the tailgate circuit, I haven’t actually checked it.

I did finally get a call back from lock manufacturer and they are supposed to be researching it but it again has been several days with no response so I’m not hopeful on that end. Their instructions give you specific wires to tap into inside the cab but the newest truck listed is a 2011, way before the trucks had factory remote tailgates.

the GM power lock uses a variable voltage.. there is 3-5v on the lock and it sends a voltage pulse to operate the lock.. this is all controlled via the BCM.. you just need to use relay that works with a pulsed trigger.. I used a PAC TR7 relay triggered by the tailgate pulse to run a couple actuators to remote open my tailgate.. similar scenario to what you want to do with the camper shell..
