Near term Blackbear Tune Question

All of you who have tuned with Black Bear or similar groups what have you changed your OEM shift points too after the tune? I am in a 2016 GMC Sierra Denali 6.2L with an 8L90 Trans.

Fake Example - 1st gear 5,250 up to 5,750

2nd gear 5,350 to 6,000

.........

7th gear......

I am looking to have them remove/reduce torque management, strengthen shift pattern firmness, and remove AFM. Just curious what was recommended to you if anything different on shift points and anything else.

I have a 6 speed but I ended up adding 17% to my part throttle shifts on my last 3 gears. It really gets rid of the lazy feeling and the shifts actually end up firming up a bit because of the higher rpms. I also bumped the downshift speeds by the same percentage to get it to downshift faster when needed. I also edited my tow haul to match what comes in the 2500hd tuning. It’s much more aggressive and helps a ton with loads over 5k.

Also, you don’t want to take off torque management on these newer transmissions. You can get a firm fast shift without doing so. I’m running 100% and the shifts feel great.

Depends on the trucks mods. Start making big power the tm screws up everything. Then you go wot and truck only gives you part throttle.

If you are using the truck for its intended purpose which is to tow and haul just tighten up the shifts so it's not so lazy. You can tell BB your intended use for the vehicle and they can give you something that will work. You can just leave torque management alone even though people will say if you do mods and have big power then you have to take it off. I say if you want a vehicle with mods and big power just use the truck as intended and then build yourself a 2500 rwhp car like I did and have fun. Just my opinion on this.

How we handle Torque Management will depend on the vehicle year and transmission. 2014+ engine and transmission Torque Management we do not remove it we remodel it to improve response and performance.

We can absolutely help with shorting and firming shifts up.

We can disable AFM within the tune, but AFM is typically a fuel saver on the 2014+ models, so we would only suggest disabling it if you have heavy wheels/tires or can't tolerate the sound with your exhaust.

Wow thank you all for the responses and an additional thanks to BlackBear for the explanation. I have purchased my tune for my AutoCal and just need to send you the data logs upon taking them.

Do you recommend any particular outdoor temperature minimum to take the readings ? Or does your programing account for the future temp variance. I am in Texas so one day it is 34 degrees and the next a high of 65 during this time of year. In six months it will be 105 with 80% humidity.

The outside temperature will not make a difference in regards to the tune. You can data log in warm and cold weather.

Correct and a tuner can view IAT and baro anyways. But engine temp matters. At like 180* the fuel and even the idle change. Also the stock tune has cat warm up that is a quick thing.
