Silverado 1500 towing number

Hi everyone! I've been looking for an answer on this site and all over the internet. The question is simple; why, according to the owners guide, towing number for a regular trailer are higher than a gooseneck or fifthwheel trailer? In my mind, towing fifth wheel or gooseneck have less of an impact on the truck. I just want to understand where I'm missing something. Thanks!!

That is because 1500 aren't 5th wheel trucks. I understand you are reading what ever but this talk has been around for as long as I can remember. There was a bright orange single. Piece or paper in my owners manual that said do not use a 5th wheel on this model.

Now a hundred people with jump in with options and statement of how they do it all the time.....

5th wheel will load down your payoad #'s really quick since it puts a good amount of weight right in your bed and standard trailers have a much lower hitch weight for about the same weight trailer (Thinking camper here)

Thanks guys! I'm not planning to drive with a fifthwheel or a gooseneck trailer. If I was, I would have kept my 3/4 ton or my 1ton truck. I was having, lets say, a serious talk with my buddy the other day, and my point was base on the amount of rake I've seen on the HD truck I had in the past loaded with both gooseneck and standart trailer, but I had never actually look in the book ahah....what a surprise for me that was when I looked in the damn book ahah! Thanks again!

you can easilyy tow with a 5th wheel, i seen a guy using the v6 truck and 4.11 rear gears pulling a 8000 lbs 5th wheel trailer

Oh it’s totally possible.

Just pay extra attention to the weight of the trailer that’ll be in the bed.

I looked a little at it for a camper, but decided to just stick with bumper pull as it’s 1000 less lbs affecting my payload.
