My 2022 purchased 12/21 z71 started doing this around 5-7k miles with 18k on the clock now. I noticed that it takes about a half hour of driving around town or out on the highway before the scrapping noise starts. Sounds a lot like a rock in a brake caliper. I quickly learned that putting the transfer case into 4auto would instantly stop the noise. I was advised by the sales person to only run in 2hi until I needed 4x4, so that's what I've done from the beginning of ownership at 22 miles. I'm the sole driver.

To me since this is clearly related to the transfer case, that it must be something not set or shimmed correctly. I'm very hesitant to report this to my dealer until I'm confident they have found a true fix. I don't want them doing research and development on my dime.

I know this thread is alittle old but I recently bought a used 2019 Silverado 1500 used from the local dealership. Has 62k miles z71, completely bone stock, 4wd.

this is my 5th Silverado and my newest one. Brought it home from the dealership the other night and had no issues. Next day as I was driving I heard what sounded like A cricket. Metal rubbing on metal. I took a video and this is what it sounds like. Is anyone hearing this same sound? Has anyone gotten to the bottom of it? Thanks!

Has anyone had a for sure fix for this? Mine does it and goes away when in 4 wheel drive. I use my truck daily and really don’t want the service department trying stuff for weeks.

I'm still under warranty with the hope someone reports back with the fix before I hand the truck over for exploratory surgery

Mine is also making the growling noise…. 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 66k on the clock noticed it around 58k , neighbor has a 2019 Silverado 1500 with 60k on the clock same noise on his as well….. paying attention to this thread for a fix……. Certainly not letting my local dealer touch it until a fix is known.

Mine sounds like bad wheel bearings or rusty brake rotors….. rotors not rusty and had a well respected shop check wheel bearings and they are fine. That shop said it sounds like wheel bearings but no evidence bearings are bad….. they have had a couple customers who have had similar trucks into the local dealer with not fix.

Thank you for this information. This looks like the fix I’ve been waiting on. I was very hesitant to have my dealer dig around experimenting on my truck needlessly.

I just posted a thread on this sounding like the exact same issue. I never wanted to take it to the steelership for these exact reasons. And I am out of Warrenty.
