I need brakes

I need brakes on the Yukon XL. They have 38k on them and I think I have warped rotors as well. Should I resurface the rotors, replace with stock, or replace with aftermarket? Any recommendations on pads for long life and low dust? Do SS lines aid braking that much?

i would check to see if the rotors can be turned

if not i would look for stock on eBay (myself)

as for the pads i 'm gonna check on the ceramics next time i need some , i heard

they cause very little dust .just my 2 penny's worth

The new ceramic pads work real well and as said they make almost no dust at all. Stainless steel lines willl give you a more firm brake pedal and a better feel than the stock rubber lines.

SS lines are BS. The rubber lines are engineered exactly for the purpose intended, and include several layers of different materials - that's why it's critical never to hang a caliper by the hose, or crimp a hose.. SS lines are thinner and bulge more as they get hot.

I put ceramic pads on, but I can't get them to stop squealing (I resurfaced the rotors too).. they work great, and produce no dust, and never fade.. I might try upgrading rotors..

Don't bother turning the rotors unless you want them to warp in a few miles again. On the new body styles, when you turn the rotors, you loos enough mass that they can't take the heat any longer and they warp quickly.

I personally put a 4-wheel Praise Dyno Stage II kit on. Somewhat expensive (`650 delivered) for rotors and pads but the braking is significantly better. If not upgrading, I would stick with reputable rotors (Raybestos, Brembo, Napa) and ceramic pads to keep the dust down.

As far as the rotors go, I'm a big fan of Bendix. I've put 'em on 3 of my last 4 vehicles to replace the junk stock rotors.

98 Cavalier

01 Blazer

02 Impala

I love Chevy's and will always stay true, but shame on them for using such soft metal on their rotors. When the rotors on my Tahoe start to show signs of warpage, I'll again go with Bendix.

Of course there are better brands out there, but you'll pay for 'em.

Good luck ~

Thanks guys. I think I will replace the rotors, keep the stock lines, and throw on the ceramic pads. Hopefully that will stop the big Yukon. One more thing. Is it worth replacing the brake fluid as well?
