Need Truxedo Lo Pro help, gate hard to open...

I just installed a Truxedo Lo Pro on my 2017 Silverado.

 

Everything went well until I went to close the tailgate. I have to slam it hard to get it to latch but then the handle is really hard to open again, almost borderline it feels like it will break off.

 

 

So I took the rails off and made sure to reinstall them and slam them against the front of the bed as bad as I can and hold them with grips until I can clamp them down.

 

Still hard to latch and unlatch... anyone dealt with this and have any suggestions? I don’t want my tailgate to be this difficult to open.

 

Can I trim off some of this rubber that may be causing the tight fit? Or is there a different trick?

I have the same setup in my 2017 Sierra. I have never had a problem where it felt like I was going to snap the latch while unlatching it. I do have to slam it with two hands to close as well. Have you tried loosening the tension screws at the front of the bed and see if that helps at all? I won’t say that mine are tight tight as I do have a little bit of “flap” while driving at highway speeds.

I believe my tension is set perfectly so I don't really want to loosen it any more.

 

I think it is better now... now that it has sat overnight with the tailgate compressing the rubber seals, it unlatches much easier.  I still have to slam it shut a little bit harder but that is OK.  At least now it doesn't feel like the handle is going to break off... whew.
