Help On GMEPP - 2018 LT (Considerations Beyond Condenser and Vacuum Pump?)

I've had my 2018 Silverado LT 4x4 for 11 months and 11,000 miles.  If I'm going to do the GMEPP now is the time before I hit my 1 year anniversary or 12,000 miles and the GMEPP price jumps.

I expect to put 15-18K miles a year on the truck on average as my other two vehicles are 9 and 10 years old so at some point the truck will likely become a more daily driver.  Trying to decide between a 60 month/75,000 mile GMEPP Platinum with $100 deductible at just under $1,200 or a 72 month/100,000 mile GMEPP Platinum with $100 deductible at $1,800.

I've never purchased an service agreement before (it's really more a service agreement than an extended warranty as GM has really outsourced the entire thing to a 3rd party) and am trying to decide whether to do this or just put $1,200-$1,800 in a separate savings account and let it sit there for next 5 years in the event I need it.

Reading through the forum it looks like the bugaboos on the K2s are primarily Chevy-shake, AC condenser leak and power brake vacuum assist pump.  I haven't noticed an issue with shake and understand the most likely suspect - driveshaft - was brought back to US manufacturing from Mexico at some point and that the 2018s have revised AC condensers and vacuum pumps.  Are there other issues I need to be thinking about on a 2018 5.3L 4x4?  I plan to drive this truck for at least 10 years God willing.  Just trying to decide if the GMEPP will be worth it.  If I go that route will likely go with the highly recommended Fitchner for purchase.

Possible trans/converter issues. oil and debris build up in the heads and burn up/out cats. Oh possible exploding rear window.

It depends the type of person you are. Hands off or not handy, not knowledgeable, rather just have others handle it at a cost. Or NEED truck as daily can't be without. then maybe the peace of mind is a good thing for you.

In my  opinion it is a waste. if you know the right way to deal with warranty work and the dealership. can read up on issue and how to address or fix them.

There are many in warranty and still do not get things covered. also there are people not getting serviced vehicles covered or cost repaid. Cost of the parts will just decrease every day. I already see these engines and trans for $3500

Thanks for the info.  I can change brakes, alternators, starters, have changed a timing chain (never again) and generally find much of this isn't rocket science.  But that said, some things (like the timing chain on a 72 Cutlas 350) that I did when I was younger and had buckets of time I now have no desire to do as the engines have gotten uber complicated and computerized and I don't have all the free time I used to now that I own a home, have kids etc etc.  But generally, my first instinct when something stops working is to Google it and see if somebody else has fixed it and posted about it.

What's the trans/converter issue?  Is it very common?  Is the oil/debris build up in the heads something sticking with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and scheduled oil changes should avoid?  My rear window is the electric slider one rather than the single one piece.

I use my truck to haul my boat occasionally or to pick up a load of hay for our horse or lumber for a project.   But I don't rely on it to make a living.  Mostly it's a way to get from A to B with my 4 kid family and occasionally to get something too big to fit in the Jeep from the store to the house.

Converts are single disc and many had issues a wear and debris from them running though engine. Everything wasted not sure it your truck will have this issue being newer.
Heads is from oil burning up on valves and valve seats. Gm bulletin states to run a cleaner though it well that causes extreme heat and wipes out the cats.
Be is a catch can mod.
Rear window you can read up.on here is a issue that gm hasn't addressed official yet.
I hear you I have all the time in the world and projects and fun then kids now it takes weeks to do one thing. Ugh

    • Howdy folks,   Recently I pulled a heated steering wheel and clock spring out of a 2015 Sierra All Terrain (part numbers coming soon - will have to disassemble), and just installed it on my 2016 Sierra WT (as base model as it gets).   On install, I noticed that I’m missing the connector often tucked behind the dash for the heating element.     No problem… or so I thought.   I used an “Add-A-Fuse” at my heated steering wheel fuse location, which has voltage, but no wires. I ran it to the positive of the heated steering wheel (Violet/White), and took black to ground.   Hooked up the battery, turned the truck on - no heated steering wheel. No button backlights. Was pleased to see that my cruise control was working though.   Read a post suggesting reversing polarity, so I gave it a shot. Violet and White to ground, Black to power.    Aha! Heat! But I seemingly can’t turn it off AND still no backlights on any of the buttons.    Checked all fuses, everything is still in good order. I’m stumped.   Does anyone have any insight? If so, please share!
    • I'm about 1800 miles into my last oil change, and yesterday a message appeared saying oil life was at 77%. Not sure why it popped up but I think all of these electronics could be susceptible to solar flares or somesuch. I change my oil right at 3K each time, and that was the first time in 10870 miles that message came up. Strange thing is that it showed on the screen at all since I don't drive with that sort of info displayed on the DIC.

    • Checked the pads today and there's plenty of meat on them. If the message keeps coming up, I'll just answer YES that the pads were replaced and wait for the squeal.
    • Welcome to the Forum! Always post the code definitions along with the codes. there are over 18000 possible codes, no one remembers them all and most will skip over your post rather than look them up
