Back seat on Extended Cabs

Recommended Posts

Ok, this is really getting to me. I want to access behind the back seat's backrest on the extended cab seat in my 2002 GMC Sierra. I know the bottom folds up, but cannot seem to find any means of bringing the backrest forward. Reason being I want to install one of those tool slings back there. My old 98 used to fold two different ways, and I cannot find a dang resource to help me access behind the backrest. Anyone know if this baby comes forward at all?

It does.....If you unbolt it, and lift it up about 3 inches.

Sorry man, thats the only way you are getting back there. There are 5 18mm (I think thats the size) nuts holding it in place.

My '01 x-tended cab back seat only lifts up. I checked when I first got it and no way is it meant to fold down. Check your owners manual.

No, the seat does not fold forward. The seat actually hangs from the back of the cab for support.

I know the rear seat top on the x-cab does not

fold down.

I thought the rear seat back on the crews DOES

fold down.

Anybody know for sure? Or if you can mod the rear

seat back to fold?...............geo

Yes the crew cab rear seats can fold either eay. The bottoms will fold forward and the back will fold down. The extended cabs only can fold the bottom up.

I'm not sure on this but I thought I read somewhere that you could cut alittle bit of the metal L backet on the back of the seat, so when you raise the bottom the top could come down too. I want to do this too, maybe I'll try it this weeke-end if I get time. I'll try to find more info on this!

You'd be better looking for a tool box that mounts under the seat...cause it aint folding down any time soon. Sorry man.

This is what I have in my Ext Cab. Works great for keeping stuff from sliding around. Keeps valuables out of site and it even locks.

It is a "Genuine GM Accessory"

GM Part Number 12498114

www.gmpartsdirect.com

$150 +$30 shipping

A bit pricey for what it is, but it does the job well.

This is what it looks like. There are some brackets and bolts not shown.

GMC has a "heavy duty" version, but it costs alot more ($600?) It has it's own lid and floor. Good if you are going to throw icky stuff inside. Otherwise the version I got is great.

under seat boxes with lid and a lock.

When they first came out they were under 100

Cause NOW they are like 500 bucks!..........geo

Mine do after I modded them, had to raise the seat to fit my 12's under the seats so I welded a 3" spacer in it, then just didn't latch the back into the hooks so that it will fold down when I want it to, so I can access my amps
