GM Hard Folding Tonneau by REV review

I was set on getting a fold a cover G4 but saw some bad customer pics of cover panels filling with water on their Facebook page and it scared me off. So ended up with the GM hard Folding by REV which is a clone of the Bakflip MX4. Of note, the gm website says their cover by REV is a 5 year warranty, whereas Bakflip MX4 is 3 years.
 
Install was relatively easy with the exception being the front gasket that I put on then had to take off and move towards the tailgate more.
 
Overall I would give the cover a 7.5 out of 10.
 
Hits. Design and looks are top notch. It is easy to flip and fold for bed access.
 
Misses. Fit and finish are rough in a few spots. The way they manage the seal on the front of the truck needs improvement for those without a plastic drop in bedliner.
 
The front rubber gasket they supply that gets stuck to the top bed rail is almost too tall causing the rubber skirt on the cover to curl up which doesn't allow water to drain off, and instead channels it to the corners where it dumps into the bed of your truck. Also the cover itself seems about a half inch short.
 
The rubber trim piece at the back of the cover was trimmed too short on one side leaving a raw cut aluminum piece visible from the outside. And the frame rails had some sharp edges causing me to scratch my hand when I reached for the stake pocket without looking.
 
Lastly, nothing to do with the cover itself, more a byproduct of the style of cover, anything 20 inches or taller won't fit. I just bought a brand new yeti type cooler by Cabela's and it just fit with maybe a half inch to spare. The sit on top type of covers or soft covers give you another inch or two more useable bed storage for taller items.
 
All said, I guess I'm happy enough with the cover that it will stay on the back of my truck although part of me wishes I had gone with the Fold a cover G4 that was originally my first choice. Also for anyone interested in the REV GM cover, truck hero confirmed it is actually closer in construction to the BakFlip G2, not the more expensive MX4. It has gloss panels like the G2 but the dual

I got the bedrug mat and am happy with it.  Covers only the bed (not sides) and makes it easier to slide stuff in and out and protects both the stuff and the spray in liner.

At first glance, this one appears to be the same as the one that came with my truck from the factory (recalled one).  I wasn't sure what company makes them for GM.  Yours looks nice, and I'm really enjoying mine!

No mine had the recalled one from the factory too. That one was drilled in with screws, this one is clamps and a different design.

Great review, I am in the market for one.

 

One of the reasons I took the Silverado over the F-150 is because of the bed. I can sleep in the back while camping. The 2012 F-150's bed was too short so I had to get the long bed. Even though Silverado was only 3 inches longer, I found it much more spacious by about 10 inches when I sleep diagonally in the back.

 

Of course, I'd want a tonneau to protect myself from the elements. I am not looking for 100% water proof, I know that's not possible, and I expect the bed to get wet or have a few leaks but at least the water won't be hitting my face.

So the marketing image for the 2019 Bakflip MX4 with a spray in bedliner also appears to sit more flush and doesn't use a foam stick on gasket along the front of the bed. So I contacted the manufacturer, and they said the Chevy website is an error in regards to the 5 year warranty. That is a misprint. It is 3 years/36000 miles whichever comes first.

So much for buying this cover because it had a 5 year warranty.

They are also sending me a smaller bulkhead seal to see if that helps the water issue any.

Based on the cost through GM, I would say most people would be better off buying it directly from Bakflip and getting the Mx4. Unless you want to roll it into your new truck financing or have other gm rewards or accessories credits to use then get the GM one.

I just installed the MX4 on my new truck. VERY happy with it, went thru a heavy rain storm on my way to Canada and all my tools were dry when I got there.

That is great to hear. Did you install the bulkhead gasket along the front edge of the truck bed? Mind sharing a pic?

hi I bought my high country had dealer put on same cover , does yours have small gap between the tail gate and cover . mine does I have the tailgate that opens and closes by key fob or button .

The cover is adjustable forward and backwards. If you have a gap at the back try loosening the two knobs underneath and slide back until it's just enough to keep water out but not too far back to stop the tailgate from dropping

Bought the Rev cover for my 2019 Sierra 5ft.7 bed, leaks in all 4 corners.I have taken it back to the  dealer 4 times for adjustments.The company that makes it for GMC says it's normal leakage .You buy the cover for security and keep things dry in the bed? Getting nowhere!  (spray in bed)

      My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.

      Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.

      Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
