Can’t get

The passenger side tailgate hinge to release

Normal tailgate removal is to go to about 45° and pull up this does not work

I removed my tailgate recently. It does come off at the 45 degree angle but not easily. I'm not sure if the damper puts some added pressure on the hinge. Keep tugging though, it will release.

Thanks I thought I was going crazy

Did you have any problems with your back up camera after unplugging

This morning I got a service rear camera message with a blue screen but it went away quickly and has not come back yet

I was installing a putco light blade

The camera was fine after i reconnected everything. I sometimes get the blue screen but that was happening before i removed the tailgate.

Can you post pics with the putco blade? Will be doing mine soon and would like to see how it looks. I was concerned because the bottom spacing when its closed looks smaller than most trucks.

Here is a pic with the Blade on mine,  they also have a style that is only red for brake and directional.  I installed mine without having to remove the tailgate

Looks awesome! I pulled the trigger yesterday, also in the red (without amber flash). I feels it looks more oem and wanted to keep the rears all one color. I also ordered the quick connect harness. Hopefully it makes the job easier! Thanks for the post

Scott,

How did you install the light bar without removing the tailgate? I ask because I tried to slide my fingers under the tailgate and onto the metal the light bar would adhere to and I couldn't touch. Guess my fingers arent long enough.

Second question, do I have to snip the wire the directions talk about or just connect everything via the Quick Connect Harness?

With your multipro tailgate did you have issues with it touching with the tailgate open? I had to mount mine so low, because it looked like the tailgate would touch, that the blade is actually blocked by the top of the bumper.

Also curious as to how you did it without removing the tailgate.

+1 on the install. I'm going with the Opt7 w/ the Putco harness.

Run the wires around the outside of the bumper (I ran mine around the driver's side of the vehicle).  One you get the wires underneath the truck, Use the double sided tape on the 4 clips that came with the lightbar.   This is where it got tricky and maybe tough to explain through a forum without photos.

Use some kind of straight-edge (yard stick, etc.) and make sure you mount the 4 clips level.  Once you have done that the lightbar should snap right into place.  It will be a tight squeeze for your fingers but can be done without removing the tailgate.

One other piece of advice, my harness did not come with a connector for the reverse wire, so I had to run to the auto parts store and buy a coupler to connect the 2 reverse (white) wires.

Did you use the putco gmc harness?

    • Are you going to take long trips in it?  If so, try out the seats in the various trims. For me the lower trim level seats were not comfortable.
    • I have a 2016 that I bought new and still own. I'm around 129,000 miles now. The biggest problem was a transmission failure about 2 years ago around 95000 miles. No warning, just failed while driving down a back road. A reman GM transmission installed and it's been fine ever since. A few other minor problems along the way. I am in no hurry to replace it. It's been paid off long ago and do plan on driving this as long as I can.   I will admit I am leery about all the additional electronics in the newer models and feel that it is just more potential problems. I think there's actually more than I would have wanted in this 2016 but so far so good. I think even if something major like lifter failure happened, it would still be cheaper to at worst, drop a new engine in than buy a new vehicle.
    • I’ve own several successful businesses. I’ve bought homes and lived in different states. I’d witness several generations buy homes and survive in different economic circumstances. You get awful sippy when people have different experiences than you do. You live a life. I’ve lived a life. It seems our experience has been different. You can point out generalized statistics. Some people learn how to thrive when the odds are against them. Living in different states does make a difference in a persons quality of life and economic outcomes and opportunities. That’s a fact Jack. It’s my truth, my life. Hard work and long hours the right environment made my families life easier. And yes moving to a different state increased the odds of that happening. Stats are generalized. People who thrive don’t make excuses. They beat the odds. Others get mad and point to those statistics. I guess that’s you. My post pointed out how you helped people beat the odds. Somehow your panties got in a wad. Go figure.
