2019- 2500 High Country Question... dealer playing games?

A buddy is buying a 2019 High Country 2500 and the dealer is telling him (mid negotiation) that they put $800 worth of steps/running boards on the truck after he refused to pay for their $500 dent insurance policy. Everything I can find says that a High Country comes standard with the assist boards, or you can upgrade to the retractables.

What am I missing? Is there some weird high country ordering option where the truck doesn't come with the assist running boards?

6” tubular steps are standard. You can order different fixed steps and depending on the step will depend on the cost. 

 

Since the dealership installs the factory steps, they could have put something different on to make more money off the truck.

 

You can’t get factory retractable steps on HD’s.

I usually tell them to pull stuff off I don't want and reduce the price.   They can't do that on most things and usually try and negotiate on the real price a little more aggressively.  In AZ they love to say the tint they put on is another $400 etc.   I tell them to strip it off, it's not dark enough and I don't want to pay for their $35 junk.    That usually makes someone real happy.   That and their outrageous fee for nitrogen filled tires (no way to tell if it's regular air or nitrogen) ...   take it back, chop $300 off and i'll take regular air please..   hahahaha.    Sales people hate me..

Order guide says that on 2019 2500 High country the VXH 6" chrome rectangular are standard equipment, dealer installed. 

 

Of course, others could be installed instead.
