How can I use wifi in my truck with out having on star.

It seems Chevy blocks most features in my truck unless I have on star. NOT nice of them.

How can I connect to wifi or my phone internet. It seems Chevy blocks everything if I do not pay them for onstar.

Help please.

can I connect to wifi in my garage and down load apps. it seems Chevy blocks my usage of everythng unless I use onstar.

I do not need nav. from onstaar. I have remote start on my key pad. i have AAA and another road service. I have a cell phone. I do not need anything onstar has to offer and

would never pay them the $20/ month they want. THey just make me have a really bad taste for chevy. This is the first Chevy product anyone in my family has ever owned. At 70 years old. I love the truck, but dislike chevy very much. Should have bought

You still have to buy mobile data to use the WiFi in the truck.  I think they partner with AT&T so you may be able to use your own data if your cell service is already with them.  If not it costs you $20 per month for unlimited WiFi in the truck.  You do NOT need to have OnStar to get the data -- it is a separate plan.

Also not sure what you mean by "apps" but you cannot use any apps directly on the screen of your 2015.  GM didn't add the app store until 2016.

Another option is to use your personal device (smartphone, etc.) as hotspot, then have the truck connect to that for wifi.  Gives you all the same functionality as if the truck was connected directly.

Do you have to go set that up somewhere in the computer or is your truck? Or is it connected to your Wi-Fi when your hotspot on and your phones connected to your truck?

It is a 2 step process.  The first step is on the phone side.  You need to enable the "mobile hotspot" feature of the phone, assuming your plan allows it.  There will be other options associated with mobile hotspot, including specifying what devices are allowed to connect and what the password is.  You should check with your carrier to get the info.  But at a minimum, before you do anything truck side, you need to - ensure you have mobile hotspot functionality on your plan (if you have data, most likely yes), know how to turn it on, know what the "name" of the hotspot is, know what the password is, and know how to allow all/certain devices to connect.

Once you know the hotspot is on, then you go to your infotainment and go to the Wifi settings.  You want to look for the name of your device.  When you connect to it the first time, you will need to enter the password for it.  The truck should remember the password.  Once you have that stored, as long as Wifi is turned on on the truck, every time you have the mobile hotspot on within range of the truck, the truck will connect, pretty much just like bluetooth does for phone/text.  At that point, the truck can do everything data related as if it was using it's own connection.

Hope that helps some.  If not, I would suggest you contact your carrier about how to use mobile hotspot, and then stop in to a local dealer to discuss how to connect to an external wifi source.

Where are the settings for this? In the onstar?

I tried that. It won't let me change anything.

Yes, I have unlimited hotspot on my att phone and had it on. I will go out there right now and see if it works.

i just looked at it. The only settings for Wifi are in my onstar button, there is nothing in basic settings to allow me to connect to other devices and utilize their hotspot ;(  This is a 2015 LTZ so not sure it has that option built in like the newer ones.

Not sure about the model year difference...from the Wi-fi menu, the next button you are looking for is "Manage Wi-fi Networks".  It is from that button that you would then see your hotspot as an available network.  If you don't have "Manage Wi-fi Networks", then it may not be an option.
