Auto Heat?

Does anyone know if heat/ac is automatically supposed to come on when you remote start? My buddy's 2017 z71 does this, but mine does not. I have a 2018 LT that did not come with the factory remote start when I got it, so I had my local dealer add an OEM one a few months ago..

Mine does in my 2017 but mine came with remote start.

Is there something in your settings that you can tweak those options? I went into the settings section while in my truck this morning and didn't see anything under the remote options area concerning heat/ac. Only window up/down preferences, door locks etc..

Hmmm no I do not, nor do I have dual zone climate. Maybe that's why I don't get auto heat when I remote start?

Reason being you don’t have the sensors when you remote start depending on the temp outside it will set the temp in the truck either hot warm or A/C.

You definitely will not get the auto feature since you have manual controls. Just set your fan speed to 3/4 or full speed and put your temperature where you like it and set how you want the vents to work. For me in my previous vehicle that had manual controls I had the blower speed set to full, temperature up all the way in the winter and down all the way in the summer and the vents were on defrost and floor (it shows the picture of the defrost vent up top near the persons head and an arrow pointing down to the persons feet. I found that this setup worked the best so it would help me heat up the cabin a little bit and also defrost the windshield and side windows a bit to help remove condensation and snow/ice in the winter. Then once I jump in I just adjust the settings to wherever you are comfortable.

Mine only has an auto heated seats option in the settings. But like others said I think you have to have auto climate and what not to have it activate with remote.

like the others said. Just crank the heat or ac up before you park it and when u remote it will kick on with your last setting

Mine only has an auto heated seats option in the settings. But like others said I think you have to have auto climate and what not to have it activate with remote.

like the others said. Just crank the heat or ac up before you park it and when u remote it will kick on with your last setting

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely employ that in the coming winter months..

Another question on that, I've always wondering how much extra wear/tear it adds when you blast the heat or AC upon initial startup? Jacking up all of the systems right away like that? I've never really worried about it, but I always remember my old man advising not to do that as it's "rough on the vehicle". Though I take it with a grain of salt, he has always been stuck in a 70's/80's mentality when it comes to vehicles. I realize todays trucks on light years ahead (for the most part) in terms of reliability..

I wouldn't worry about it. The only thing is that you would heat up a bit faster if you keep the fan off until the engine warms up a bit and then turned the fan on so it would have hot air to blow around and not start out by blowing cold air and then eventually heat up. Older vehicles had it so when you put a huge load on the electrical like having your blower at full speed it would put a huge demand on your alternator and old engines would start the alternator immediately as the engine was on. Newer engines have the alternator start up a few seconds after you get it running so it doesn't put a huge strain on the engine as it just started up and is beginning to run.

One recommendation for you is to hookup your rear defroster (if you have it) and heated mirrors (also if you have them) to your defrost wire on the remote start. Mine will automatically come on from remote start if it's 40 degrees or cooler out or if I command them to turn on from my remote but it is super helpful if you are in a cold place where your mirrors and back window ice over. I have a cap on the back so I don't need the rear window to be warm but the mirrors are helpful as they defog and defrost for me before I get out to brush off the snow or jump in lately when it gets cold at night.

I am pretty sure my 2015 it progressively turns it up. It doesn't blast wide open when the truck is ice cold in the winter, as the coolant temps heat up, it keeps bumping up the blower fan speed. Maybe let your truck run for a cycle, then command start it again then open the door and see if it kicked on. Probably something GM could set up with a software adjustment if your starter is OEM. Edit: skimmed over the climate control talk. Disregard.
