Legit Range AFM???

I took a chance and bought an open box Range AFM for my Silverado. I honestly dont drive it much so I haven't got a chance to test it out yet. It has green LED's. The side of the box has a sticker that says V8.6R1. I know that there is a way to check what firmware is by counting the LED flashes. When I plug it into the OBD port, it does a quick single flash, then it flashes the first LED 8 times, then the second LED 6 times. That seems to match the way to check the firmware and it matches up. The Range sight does mention that it is available in blue, green, red, or yellow LED's but I have always seen only the blue mentioned in the various threads.

So my question is how do I know if I have a legit Range AFM Disabler? It seems to be legit by the box and by looking at the device. Do I just have to take it out for a drive and see if it stays out of V4? And should I be aware of any complications by using counterfeit devices or does it simply just not work and will continue to go back and forth out of V4?

I bought it off ebay for a decent price which I know I see warnings about all the time. The seller is somewhat local, sells many different parts and has over 1400 feedbacks with a 100% rating. It has a 14 day return so I should be good on that. Looks like I just have to head out and see if it works. I just wanted to find out if I should be concerned that if it happened to be a counterfeit device, might it cause other problems?

Do people make counterfeits of these? In my experience you don’t really have to worry about electronics being counterfeit.. now ray bans are a different story, but it’s too hard and the people that have the knowledge on how to make such devices and code them aren’t making small bucks on counterfeiting these devices.. they are working for big companies making 150-200k a year.. you’re fine, plug it in and enjoy!

I don't think it can hack your pcm or anything. It's either going to work or it's not. Plug it in and find out.

I went out for a short ride today after posting and it seems to be working fine, no V4. I have a longer trip planned tomorrow and will get a chance to check it at highway speeds. Im looking forward to this instead of running around everywhere in M5. It will be nice to run it in 6th gear at highway speed and stay in V8. I'm betting that it might just help a bit on mpg as well. I should have done this a long time ago. Thank you all for the responses.
