because its an automatic and i didnt pay 50K to shift it manually.

I have to press these two pedals and turn this round thing when I drive, so yeah, I feel your pain.

Your feelings got so hurt over that that you need to resort to personal attacks?

That takes a special sort of mental gymnastics.

But hey, whatever makes you feel good about yourself.

See, if someone offered up a solution, temporary or long term, to an issue I was having that I hadnt thought of I might just try it out rather than telling people what I paid for my vehicle.

This is where critical thinking skills come in. Ask yourself, do I want to be full of indignant rage because my new toy isnt acting quite right? Or do I want to find a simple way to easily alleviate a minor issue (And it truly is minor) until I can get it solved correctly?

I mean, If Im an imbecile and can come up with that, where does this leave you?

Can I play too?

Actually some good info in here. The 1-2 bump when cold is undoubtedly only the 8 speed hooked up to a 19+ s/s DFM engine. And it is going to do it when cold and no dealer or reprogramming or magical fluid change to Mobil1 HD is gonna fix that. And the length of time sitting, temperature and speed of acceleration in first gear  is going to determine the severity of the bump. Depending upon those factors mine will do it the first one or two shifts after an overnight sit and almost all gone at a tyranny temp of 80+F.

And yes, in most cases the tranny does not have more brains than the driver and he must use it to adapt to certain situations where the tranny cannot cope. It is not difficult to design a really smooth running tranny under almost all conditions, and using governors, servos and a whole lot of mechanical crap instead of a self learning computer. GM did exactly that in my '74 Impala Custom 3 speed and you could not feel the shift points at any rate of acceleration...of course the gears sounded like a jet engine with a wicked amount of gear overlap for smoothness........that design only took an ave. mileage 4 mpg to do so!

But no more $.30 gal gas and we have to save the planet by putting corks in cow's asses and burdening autos with ridiculous kludges to meet CAFE standards to compensate for all the CO put out by trees burning up in CA instead of using their beloved lumber to construct housing for the homeless. So start-stop and a wonky 8 speed that can give 24 mpg is what you get - and unless you dealer's name is Merlin and wears a tall pointy has - that is what you have to live with!

I have no problem with the swap from Dextron to Mobil1 HD, my 3/19 later build already had it, but seriously doubt it will have anything to do with correction of the hard 1-2 shift when cold.

Here's my take on it and why I'm not wasting time or worse letting the dealer screw around with something he can't fix anyway.

Because of start- stop (s/s) the attached 8 spd. tranny has to maintain hydraulic pressure at all times to keep the bands engaged on the drums for instant takeoff - BUT with the engine on auto stop the tranny pump is not running so no hydraulic pressure and the bands retract from the drums and you'll get a 1-2 second delay before the bands engage and the auto begins to move with a bang and a jolt. Now that would cause real complaints so GM 8 speeds incorporate an accumulator  to solve the problem....tranny pump pressurizes the accumulator when the engine is running, the accumulator maintains pressure on the bands during the auto stop cycle, and when it auto starts again the tranny pump recharges the accumulator waiting for the next cycle. It is irrelevant if s/s is defeated or not, the accumulator, not the pump directly powers the servo to band to planetary drum gearset shifting mechanism. And just like the bleed down of oil in the engine hydraulic system on a long sit, the accumulator in the tranny does likewise. So after a cold sit the tranny pump must first recharge the accumulator and that's where temperature/thickened tranny fluid and maybe an air embolism can have a negative effect on the shift point and a hard 1-2 shift until the pressure stabilizes and fluid heats up.

So a driving large truck with 355 hp engine capable of 24 mpg with power controls so easy a child can drive it using two pedals and a wheel and that's the big complaint "I get a bump on a shiftpoint" or "my roof makes a pop noise in the Sun".....Having to crank up a passenger window or lock the door from the driver's seat, or get out of the car to unjam a shift rod, or stick a screwdriver in the choke to start the damn thing, or push the car, jump in, shift to first, let out the clutch, and pray to start with a dead battery on the first try - Now that's something to complain about!

Amen!

My auto start/stop straight up shit the bed leaving work today and it took two attempts to restart. It was cold and I was on a decline which may have played a part, but who knows.

Nothing major unless it does this consistently as this type of thing Could be a safety issue, ;like if I was trying to avoid gang bangers or something.

I just restarted it and ripped off down the road with a bigole grin on my face.
