white lettering on tires

Why is it that almost all new/used passenger cars have straight black tires with no outlined white lettering, but trucks/suvs 90% of the time do? Is it the size of the tire?

The big three designers have it all wrong. All black looks better.

Because most passenger car tires nowadays are low profile performance tires. Not only do they look better with lower profile, but the black out treatment adds a "mean" look to it.

 

Converesly, most truck tires have outside raised white lettering because they have a big enough sidewall to do so and it's tradition. Most off-raod tires have their brand and name of tire in raised white lettering.

 

Actually, Goodyear makes a yellow lettered tire available for sale and as standard equipment on cars such as the Jeff Gordon edition Monte Carlo SS.

I think it depends on what you are setting your truck up with. I like the letters out on mine.

 

I had the white letters in on the last set of tires. I think I like them better out.
