Click in steering column when brake is pressed

Anyone else have a very audible "clicking" from within the steering column when you touch the brake pedal?  It only does it when in "park".  It just started doing it today for the first time.  It sounds like a relay clicking but I'm wondering why it just started doing it today.

Assuming it’s the device that locks the shifter until the brake is pressed to shift out of park. I wouldn’t say mine is very audible, but I can hear it when the radio is off.

Something definitely changed with mine.  I can hear it very distinctly now.  Never noticed it until today.

I found this the other day as well! I will eventually take it in, but right now I don’t want to deal with them [emoji23]. Oh.. mine is a 2018 though.. didn’t realize I was in the 19-20 section.

I was able to isolate it to the shift interlock solenoid.  If you telescope the steering wheel all the way out, you can stick your finger in there and touch the solenoid.  It is definitely loudly clicking with each slight touch of the brake.  It wasn't doing it before this weekend.  So either the solenoid is failing or there was a dab of grease on the contact points that has worn off.  Hard to believe either way since truck only has 2700 miles on it.

Not too long ago that was a normal noise in cars.  But I get it, if it made the noise from the beginning, it would appear to be ok, but since it quit for a while then making noise, it can be annoying.

Mine started doing the same exact thing tonite , only does it in park on the first shift, once in drive or reverse there is no noise when the brake pedal is applied. just turned over 3500 miles on the truck and it has been completely quiet until now. it does sound exactly like a shift interlock solenoid. i haven't had a chance to check it out yet. seems like it is coming from the steering column area.

It's definitely the shift interlock solenoid in mine.  It's just strange that it was dead silent for 2800 miles and now it suddenly makes the "click".  Either GM uses some crappy solenoids that are sloppy/noisy or there is some grease on the contact points that wears away after a couple thousand miles?

Just got 2021 Chevy Silverado. Had it just over 2 months and randomly this morning went to pop my e break off so I press my brake pedal and just a loud clicking noise. Only does this while in park any tips or should I bring it in to the shop?

Sounds like the safety mechanism to allow you to shift from park (as in, sensor on brake pedal is triggered, allowing the shifter to move).  It's been audible in vehicles I've had in the past (including my 2013 Avalanche and my 2013 Traverse, among others), but not crazy loud or anything.  I have a center console in my truck with the electronic shift so it doesn't exist for me now.
