Good Day all,

First post to the threads, i would like to thank in advance.

We have a 2016 Silverado 1500 at work that I would like to change the map and dome lights to red from the oem of white. They are small square lights that the internet seems not to carry. Any suggestions?

To red? Now why would you want to do that?

We Run an aircraft deicing operation that is predominately at night, so with red being less intrusive on the eyes, helps us complete the paperwork that is required

Oh interesting. That I'm aware they are led chips. Not easy bulb swap.

I took apart some of these and this is what I’ve learned about them. They are SMD and likely difficult to swap if you don’t have experience working with/soldering SMD into PCBs.

You might be able to add a red translucent film to them kind of like the old military flashlights that came with the different color discs to change the color. Just an idea for you.

I agree, add the RED vinyl to your existing LED (for the map light, anyway).

dont you have the blue interior cluster lighting? Kind of seems like a moot point if you don't already have the red interior lighting that came on the 2015(?) and earlier models..

FWIW, red light wavelengths dont affect the rods of your vision the same as other color wavelengths do, that's why .mil uses them for ambient lighting when possible/practical, it also doesn't detract from your "night vision" when moving from lit to dark environments (as OP noted above).
