A pillar light mounts ( Ditch light mounts)

Recommended Posts

i seen a similar year Silverado with A pillar/ ditch lights mounted driving by the other day.  I kind of liked the idea. since I absolutely hate the idea of people having a 50 " light bar on the top of the windshield.

now brings my search for the brackets.  and with the old google foo found hood hinge brackets that were $212 CAD and then there was some modifications that needed to be done.

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01AT5J150/?coliid=I1RTJ64IO5AABL&colid=2W4VDCUHN82W9&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

found a set for $120 CAD plus shipping from Rago  Fabrication

https://www.ragofabrication.com/collections/chevy?page=2

and then the generic ones that you tighten set screws to clap onto the actual hood ( can you say destroy paint and invite rust)

anybody else have any recommendations?  or other options?

I needed to trim the cowling just a little bit. It’s very soft so a razor blade will do. Took like 5-10 mins to trim where the bracket is.

Thanks for the info and the link for the YouTube video.

did you need to mod your passenger side bracket to clear the cowling like in the video or has SDHQ fixed their design. Looks like in the video he was contacting one of the antenna stud mounting bolts that was creating his issue

I had to trim the bracket to fit it but I’ve talked to others and they said they didn’t have that issue. I sent sdhq my measurements in case they wanted to update their brackets.

That’s cool. Can I ask you to take a couple more pictures. From inside of the truck. Hey would like to see how much these pods create a blind spot. I am guessing it’s not too much.

I demodded and traded that truck in last month so unfortunately no pictures of it anymore.

My opinion in the ditch lights versus single front light bar debates. Ditch lights are the way to go BUT I had retrofitted lights so I had relatively good coverage straight ahead just wanted to wash the ditches better for suicidal deer.

You don’t see the pod at all on the left side (even with two pods). You’ll see the pod on the right side tho.

At first I was going to ignore ditch lighting, but I'm hearing a compelling argument for including it.

it would be a pretty cool effect using something like Rigid Industries Radiance lighting with the colored back lighting..

I used Oz USA pods that had amber DRL’s. Basically when my headlight came on, a relay turned the drls on. When I flipped my brights the white LEDs came on.

Thanks for posting the pics. Specially the ones from inside of the truck.   Thinking about using pods that have side shooting amber led strobe lights.  I am still trying to figure out where I am putting the switches though

I hooked mine up to my high beam for the front facing ones. The side facing pods are hooked up to the “OFF-road light switch. ( there’s a whole thread about that)”.

    • Even tougher is the 5.0 / 302. That's what this one has.    https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   https://postimg.cc/4n3F3yzY   Just realized I had the airbox removed in the engine pic, lol.
    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
