I've had HP Tuners since 2012 so I've been around it long enough to not have many worries when messing with it. I've done many changes to the calibration from the engine side to transmission tuning. Changes to the transmission make a huge difference in everyday driving to me. No more 6th gear by 40mph type stuff so it actually drives like you think it should. I've even plumbed and wired up a flex fuel sensor for E85 fuels, it's a small bump in performance just running that fuel with a dialed in tune.

I definitely have an appreciation for that stance of trucks. I think it comes from driving 200,000 mile trucks with 33in tires that you can barely keep between the lines. Stock/lowered with good handling is pretty nice. Lol. But, I work off-road occasionally so I'll probably stick with a leveling kit eventually.

6th gear by 40mph is no joke. That and when it upshifts to stay around 1100 rpms while going up a hill. Drives me crazy. I think I could live with it for the time being if I was getting the fuel mileage but since I'm not I'd rather have performance. I think alot of guys don't notice the upshifting because they are relatively smooth and don't mind the delay between when the TC locks unlocks, down shifts, torque management, etc after applying the throttle. But for me, it's my power and I want it now! Haha. I just want mine to wait until like 2200-2500 rpms to shift in 2nd-3rd.

I'll keep doing my research in HP tuners then.

Here's what I got today .

387 miles total. All interstate but 4 miles in town. 65 miles at 60 mph, 318 miles at 70 mph. Rogers MN to Tomah WI. Had a slight headwind coming home and a little more traffic.

23,000 miles on truck

No AFM , Borla S type catback.

This is typically what I get on the hwy going 70 mph cruise control on 90% of the time.

24.1 mpg lifetime average (46,000 miles). Would be higher if the winters didn’t hurt my fuel economy so much. But I’ve had some rather amazing results in the summer, usually finish my week long commute (500 miles) at 25.5 mpg for the week. I am pretty much mostly a highway commuter 68-70 mph, very conservative on the gas pedal. Stock 17 inch rims and tires.

Hard to believe that tires, engines, and truck specs all on the same platform can vary over 10mpg in consumption.

Very interesting to say the least. Goes to show what tire selection and driving habit can do for you.

I just like to say that I can get 22-24mpg, it makes me feel better.

Because in reality with my everyday driving I get like maybe 12-14mpg. In the 6,800ish miles I've driven my truck my avg mpg is 12.5 LOL. At least it takes me 2 weeks to burn a tank in the winter and 3 weeks in the summer time.

My average is actually up to 15.9! I'm slowly climbing. My first few tanks manually calculated were within .1 of the average at the time. Going to drive full grandpa mode on 91 octane my next tank to see just how good I can get and then not worry about it from then on. Lol

How in the blue hell are you guys averaging 12-16 mpg in one of these trucks? I don’t think I could average 15 mpg if I left the thing running in my driveway while I went to bed. I must not be having nearly as much fun driving this thing as everyone else. Haha.

I do plan on going a little bigger on my tire/rim combo in a couple years (figure truck will be paid off by then and I won’t mind the drop in fuel economy as much). Right now my truck kind of looks like a car, with these stock 17’s, but I commute 80 miles a day, so I don’t mind THAT much...but it would look a lot better with some nicer tires/rims.

I drive around 8 miles per day, so it's really not possible to avg any better. It's 50mph max speed with several stop lights. Using my remote start doesn't help and I use a heavy foot from time to time.

The only time it's up in the 20's is on trips to places farther away or going to the cabin.
