Well, she’s down for the count. BIGTIME.  On my way into the office yesterday she started a little miss, then bogged, tons of lights, then dead. All in a few seconds time, didn’t even have enough time to pull over in a good spot. Motor locked, wouldn’t turn. Got home, pulled the passenger head off to find this:

That wasn’t too bad. Kinda interesting with the rocker snapped like that. That’s a new one. But then I found this:

Annnnd then of course there was this. There’s also a hole very similar at the 12 o’clock position:

Rod is trashed and somehow bound up against the block.  The four pieces of the piston that are left move freely.

Anybody got a long block they need to get rid of? ?

Flex tape can't fix that... Seriously though I can't wait for mine to get out of extended warranty so I can dig in and upgrade the parts. Mines got 114,000 on it and with these posts it feels like a ticking time bomb. How many miles on yours? Stock? AFM still active?

Yes, what was the history?

Also thinking this is a ticking time bomb?  I have seen 1qty handful of these on the forums?  Really, I bet the Ecotec3 lineup has cost GM probably insignificantly due to damage like this....this is absolutely awful and something rarely seen in average LD truck use in sub 200k mile engines.

114k  with only a mild tune for transmission exorcism.  No change to engine parameters.   AFM still active.

Ran like a top till she blew. Per previous post, only a transmission shift tune. That’s it.  Broken exhaust spring and then bye bye engine.

Looking at these engines and these posts, if someone has one of these with higher miles (over 130k or so) and they like the truck, they should seriously consider doing a rebuild with DOD delete and some upgrades parts. I think the engine has potential to be really solid with some work. It wouldn't be cheap but still cheaper than a new truck. I really like mine and haven't had any of these issues but the more I read this, the more I wanna just get the heads, lifters rockers, pushrods, valve springs, cam, DOD delete, etc done and drive it for another 100,000 (and take the power upgrade as a bonus). For now if this happens to me, my warranty will cover it but it would be annoying.

Why DOD delete? Is there any proof it is contributing to this type of engine failure?

Not to start an argue, but I don’t see DOD as a contributor to this issue.  This was sketchy springs, plain as day.

Agreed. I don't understand why so many people hate the DOD/AFM. I almost never even notice it doing its thing.

So if I have 120k and DoD I am safe? What if I push it to 135k and have DoD will my motor fail in spectacular fashion? Why wouldn't they just upgrade if it fails (which it most likely won't)?

There isn't, just another DoD hater because they hear a few other random people having an issue... They see 15 posts about a failure on forum of a truck that has built millions of these and want to make a mountain out of a mole hill on a less than a tenth of a percent failure rate?

    • Brought my 2015 Colorado into the dealership to check my touch screen issues, had that ghost touch thing happening. They said I needed a new touch screen and they could either order me one for $500. The lady at the service deck was nice enough to tell me I could order a touch screen online for less, she did stipulate that the touch screen had to be factory OEM, you can't pair an aftermarket screen to my radio seeing it was 2015, it had to be a GM factory OEM only. I found a few on Amazon and Ebay by the numbers on the back of the old screen, DJ080PA-01A GM# 22740886, Some said "OEM" in the description and others just said "Replacement". Would a replacement be the same as a OEM as long as it had the same numbers on the back of the screen? In some of the descriptions they also show different brand names but same numbers, is that an issue?
    • I have both but typically use the 4 legged walker (wheels on front, ski's on back).   The four wheeler is starting to be used on "longer" outdoor walks.  The 4 legged walker is particularly helpful in practicing good walking posture.  Both of my knees are at different stages of recovery and I'm trying to not develop poor habits.  I can actually manage with a cane but it's very difficult not to favor one leg over the other.  My PT recommends I continue with my 4 legged walker for a while.  Yesterday was four weeks since my last knee replacement and I'm excited about my progress to date.  It has been a hell of a rough journey so far but it is exciting to witness  systematic and continuous improvement.  I went for years watching the decline of my "mobility".  It seems that everyday now I am alerting my wife to something I can do now that I couldn't a day or two ago!  I encourage anyone facing the prospect of knee replacement to share any concerns with others who have had the surgery.  It isn't an instant fix but rather is a considerable amount of short term pain for long term gain.  Recovery time and pain levels vary for individuals post surgery but the end results are typically very positive and I've never encountered anyone regretting having had the surgery.
    • The lifter issue can be dealt with by shorter oil changes and quality oil IMO.
    • Got heavy rain, hail and light rain yesterday.
    • I'm putting in an A-pillar pod/gauges, and I'm asking if anybody can identify a (preferably) fuse for a switched power and illumination circuit on the driver's side interior fuse panel. Offhand, everything I checked with a test light was constant-hot, and I'd much rather uses a piggyback fuse. I can certainly find a wire, but I'd rather not half-tap.   Thanks in advance for any help.
