Anyone running an HP Tuner on their N/A, Catback 5.3 K2XX? If so where did you get it from?

Yeah, I've been using HP Tuners since 2012.

I bought it straight from HP Tuners themselves, why hassle with summit racing or any other re-seller when buying from the actually company is that easy. You'll need the tuning device plus however many credits your vehicle takes to license.

Just know that HP Tuners does not come with tunes or anything, the user is the person making all the changes so you will need to understand how things work in the GM world of calibration.

Okay, I’m coming from the Cummins world, where you could purchase pre-tuned EFI Live downloaders. That’s why I asked that way.

How much of a bear is it to tune? I am computer savvy, but I don’t wanna screw things up

I'll be honest here, if you've never done anything like this before it will not be easy. The 2014+ trucks run basically the most advanced calibrations that are out there for GM vehicles aside from the T1 trucks that just came out.

There are courses and books/video's you can buy to better prep yourself. Greg Banish at Calibrated Success offers books and video's. There is also The Tuning School and many youtube video's to shine some light on what you will be dealing with.

I learned on the computers that came out in the late 90's through the early 2000's when I first started tuning in 2012, so everything I learned on those computers carried over into the newer 2007+ computers while also being introduced to new things in those computers. Then as time went on they progressed and once 2014 came, things got more complicated but most of the same basics still applied.

There are other options out there if you don't want to do it yourself. Like a dyno tune from a shops or finding a local person that does tunes. I've never been a fan of handheld tuners so I don't all of those options.

Kinda what I thought. That’s more or less what I was looking for. If I purchased the tuner and the licenses, if anyone was selling tunes or if I’d have to find someone somewhat local to me in MD.

What mods have you done to your truck so far?

Right now it’s CAI and exhaust. I will eventually go the route of forced induction, but I need something to tide me over and I was looking over my options.

Cam stated right, hp tuners is pretty invasive when it comes to control. I have been using it since 2015. I acquired most of my learning from videos and the hp tuners forum. In my opinion it is a great skill to learn if your planning on tuning or having most of your vehicles past present or future tuned. It took me a good year to learn enough to feel confident in tuning. A lot was through trial and error but helped instill the concept. I also believe it helps one understand how many of the vehicles systems work.

There are companies that will send programmed tunes for Hptuners and have you do some data logging to fine tune it.

i have the old HPtuners module,  I wish i got the pro version, as the number 1  performance tune upgrade you want to do is Improve PE tables, this is where the most bang for the buck power is hidden, close to 50hp is left on the table under PE. this is dialed down due to emmission regs by GM, 2500 truck have it turned off completly on some model years., thus why you need the live wideband O2 graphing.  I wouldn't touch the timing, until you got some seat time, I would recommend tuning your transmission first.

That’s another reason I was looking into them, because I wanted to find a product that could tune the transmission as well. I’m gathering that I should get the book and do a lot of studying first.

yes get the Greg Banish books, then watch sloppy mechanics videos and Goat rope garage you tube videos,  then you can buy the GM trans tuning books for HPtuners .  also you want to purchase the chinese  VCX Nano  device to read and clear transmission learn functions, and tb relearn, and body control computer for diagnosis..  if your really anal the factory repair manuals cant hurt. either on CD or paperback

    • Hi all - my current truck is a 2022.5 1500 High Country 3.0. I bought the truck used last year. After doing some digging, I noticed that my truck's software is stuck on the original build from 2022. I have no available software updates. I talked to my dealer about this and they recommended not trying to force an update since the 36,000 mile warranty is expired. This is a big bummer since there have been many major releases since that have fixed small issues and improved speed/usability.   For reference, the current software build number is: full_gminfo37_gb-user 10 W158E-W164.4.2-QIH22B-563.3 158 release-keys Has anyone had a similar experience? Should I just forget about it and move on, or try a different dealer?
    • Sure. Buy it for me 🤣
    • Using zip ties but 2-3 they snap due to sharp edges. Just using a shoestring. Last longer. 🤣
    • I ordered the Snap On...waiting for it to come in later this week or early next week.   New front cover, new crank seal and new balancer are on. Water pump, pulley, fan, hoses, and plastics reinstalled. I can move forward knowing all my timing marks are dead on and the front engine is hopefully sealed better than it was. Take 2 with the water pump...trying high temp thread sealer on the lower bolts.   Rebuilt injector and new-new regulator is in, it looks like new. Top intake reassembled and all the bits are reconnected and snugged down.   Thinking about knock sensors again, I located both of mine and, there's your problem, Francis... The driver's side one is broke, plastic is bashed in, part of the wire is bare, and it appears to have been damaged like that for a long time. I saw the wire but didn't think anything of it. The knock sensor might not be my pulled timing issue, but it sure looks suspect. It must still be conducting, otherwise I'd expect a CEL. But perhaps with its sacred crystal inside exposed, jilted and dirty, maybe it's sending mixed signals. So I'm waiting for one of those and a new pigtail to come in. Pass side sensor looks good, except for the spark plug wire resting on it (!). The plug wires are healthy so it shouldn't be causing an issue, but I separated them and added zip ties to nearby looms to keep everything well apart.   So, I'm down to installing a knock sensor AND, oh, replacing the exhaust and cat. I actually think that's going to be fairly easy, it's all bolt-together, all new stuff from Walker is laid out on the shop floor ready to go. Hopefully have this thing on the road again for the weekend.   My luck? It will still be leaking oil, coolant, pulled timing, intermittent CEL for running rich, or it probably won't run at all -- because that's how this project has gone.   I've never worked on a vehicle so ...hurt? ...cursed? in my life. Everything has been effed with SO HARD, but I think...knock on wood...I've managed to undo all the backyard stuff and we're almost reset back to "just" an 80k mile, 30 year old Blazer.
