Extended warranty

After 19 weeks on order I have a TPW of March 16th. It's been almost 20 years since I have had a new truck and back then you could fix just about anything. With all the technology now I don't think its in my wheelhouse to fix it now. I know it's subjective based on price and coverage but what is everyone's opinion of purchasing an extended warranty? The truck is a 2500HD well equipped. My plan is to keep the truck up to 10 years.

Thanks

Mike

you can shop around and negotiate.....first number the dealer will throw at you will be really high, also i believe you don't have to get it right away....you can get them almost whenever you want

there is a thread somewhere where a guy was quoted like $3600 from dealer and he shopped around and got $1500 from someone else and told dealer....the dealer dropped it to $1300

so yeah its huge money maker for them, i didn't get one from finance dept and they were pissed off to say least....they wanted and expected i would i assume as reason for their dislike so yeah i think its a big deal for them

I kept my last 2 trucks for 7-years and 5-years.  I purchased the GM / Ally warranties a month or so prior to the original warranty expiration.  There really is no need to buy them sooner, but I highly recommend the warranty.  I always go with the $0 deductible plans to avoid headaches and nickle and dimeing.  Nowadays a darn fuel pump replacement is $1,000+.  Had the nav unit go out in my 08 - would have cost me over $2K without the extended warranty...Like they mention above, shop around.

Keep in mind, the GM factory Protection Plan is gone for 2020, at least in the US.  GM contracted it to third-party AMT Warranty and the longest plan is 5 years/60,000 miles (which isn't even as long as the Duramax warranty).  If you want longer than that, you have to go aftermarket.
