ESC almost wrecked my truck!

While out on a dirt road enjoying my newly installed prerunner suspension I successfully turned off the Traction Control and ESC (electronic stability control). Went for a run down the woops and ESC turned itself back on and applied the brakes during one of my drifts. COMPLETELY unexpected and caused the truck to handle undesirably (to say the least). In talking to another Chevy guy he said the ESC turns itself back on at 35mph and above!... Is there anyway to 'tune' this out and make it stay off when desired?

This is exactly why I held onto my 05 Duramax for so long. It had ZERO 'nanny hardware' that would f*#k with me while offroading.

Get a J-2534 (J-BOX) and a one day subscription to chevy so you can go in and possibly adjust the settings if it allows. IF you don't have the $$$$$ for a J-Box then would be best to check with a shop that does programming or maybe has a Tech-2 tool.

I know on my daughters 04 Hyundai Santa Fe the traction control went out (short I believe) it also took down the ABS so needless to say the anti lock brakes don't and won't work. Not happy!

There's other systems that may "malfunction" if the ESC is turned off, etc are unknown but my thought is stabilitrak if it has it, ABS as those systems rely on each other.

Just as with air bags if you have a air bag code the system will not deploy in the event of an accident.

Maybe there's a fuse or relay that can be pulled if you truly want to disable the Electronic Stability Control.

Disregard the part about the tech 2 tool as I thought you were still driving the 05 but noticed it was the newer truck forums.

Did you do the long press on the esc button for like 10 seconds to really turn everything off? If memory serves just pushing the button once doesn't really turn it off off. Don't have the manual infront of me but it should be in there

It turns back on at 35mph no matter what. If you have a low range transfer case it may stay off but your speed would be limited.
