I have a 2020 2500HD with the 6.6 L8T gas engine in it.  It runs anywhere from 180 to 220 on the temp gauge while normal driving.  Is this normal?  It seems like it's getting too hot to me.

That's normal. Really, for pretty much most vehicles on the road, that is an ideal range. Enjoy your truck. The transmission temp is a little higher than it used to be in the 6.0 engine, but designed that way with a thermostat for efficiency.

Normal.  Get an app like Torque or Bluedriver and a bluetooth OBDII adapter and you will see that the gauge in the cluster is just a buffer for the actual coolant temperature.  Watching the live data will show you the actual coolant temperatures.

So this engine temp is normal? My truck isn’t broken in yet but I’m towing a trailer half it’s capability. Got to admit I’m concerned.  - 2022 GMC Denali Gas

Yeah pretty much. The DI engines like to run from 200-230 on a regular basis. In the summer months it doesn't take much to see it start climbing and the fans should come at full speed at a little over 230 at least in the half ton trucks.

Don't forget that the computer is monitoring every sensor. (or the sensor wouldn't be installed on the truck....)

It will derate if necessary to protect itself.

It will notify you if it needs/wants operator assistance.

Enjoy the new ride.

Hello all,

I'm new here and new to the L8T 2500hd crew. We just took our first trip with our 10k 5th wheel trailer. With my previous gasser I could pull the trailer in 5th (6spd trans) gear with not temps rising.

With the L8T it runs at 210 unloaded and loaded running in 4th. But when I let it shift into 5th also a (6spd trans) the temp immediately  jumps up to about 230 or so. Is this normal? Or should I be having my dealership take a look at it?
