6.2 piston slap

Hi guys. Recently purchased a 2010 gmc sierra 1500 6.2. Noticed that after startup as its warming up, there is some audible piston slap noise. Absolutely silent at hot idle, just during warm up. Anyone else have this in there 6.2? 130k on her. Runs absolutely perfect. Great oil pressure too. Thanks

I don't own a 6.2 but I know of the noise. It's a fairly common thing on many trucks dating all the way back to the early 2000's. Always more noticeable when it's cold outside.

I wouldn't worry too much about it because the only way to make it stop is you tear the whole engine down and rebuild it. Machine the bores, new pistons and rings etc etc etc.

It's a pretty common with just the 6.2 trucks in the gen iv's.  My 2013 is the exact opposite... quiet cold and hammers when its warm to the point it's annoying.  It comes and goes lol.  I'm going to run it until it blows up because I do not feel like tearing it down at 63000 miles.  Mine has okay oil pressure... i personally don't consider 50 psi hot at wide open throttle good but probably most do lol.  I would like to do something with that because the dash cluster reads about 10 to 20 psi different than a test guage and varying rpm... makes some sense though as the relief valve in the oil pan bleeds off before the guage sending unit.  I even swapped in a new sending unit and watched it via a scanner and it made zero difference.  Junk lol.

I have a second 6.2 in a crate that apparently was similar to mine and at 70000 miles it and was swapped.  I have driven a dozen different 2010 to 2013 6.2 trucks beyond my own and they all made varying degrees of noise especially now with miles on them.  Just send it.

If you search 6.2 piston slap on google you get lots of reading... lol.

Thanks guys. I figure it is up to temp 99% of the time I am driving so not worried about it. Just wanted to throw it out there and make sure its "normal". Alot of YouTube guys with the same trucks say it has made that noise since they bought it new and have it at 250k miles so no big worries. Just unnerving. Guess I will use the remote start so I dont have to hear it. Cheers, stay safe.
