Can any of you confirm if you are able to use your SD card to play music or is it only for navigation? Additionally, if you have any pictures/ schematics on how it is hooked up, it would be greatly appreciated. I am wanting to add the USB-C and SD card reader to my custom but I am not sure if this will be a wasted effort or if will just be a matter of wiring everything up to work.

For what it's worth, the radio I have is the 7in IOR without Bose and the reason why I want to do this is to have the USB-C for apply play and use the USB or the card reader for music instead of my phone if possible.

Thank you.

Come to find out, it’s just a matter of plug and play For those wanting to do this. No harness, no issues with flashing BCM. Super easy lol

Another music storage solution. Lexar S47 series.

Only the small black portion will stick out from the usb slot, so less likely to catch something on it and cause damage.

Also available in 32 and 128GB capacities.

Any chance to plug in a USB extension to add on extra USB to plus in multiple USB?

Yes you can do that. anytime you split a USB signal the data rate is split as well.

I've yet to try it but it will likely be able to read multiple devices attached to one unit, however if you try to do something really weird like 5 external hard drives for music you could run into the limitations of the file system built into the stock head unit.

Basically when you hook up a USB device the head unit has to read and understand and most importantly index the file system of that device.

One of the thing you're going to run into is voltage drop. every USB extension, hack every USB cable even, has a drop in voltage over its length. so if you're trying to power a hard drive or an SSD do bear in mind the quality of the adapter will have a big determination on whether or not it will work.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Are you referring to the Nav upgrade?

Thanks

You can do that but if I remember correctly the truck outputs either 2 amps or 2.4 amps through its USB. that's the total maximum output of the port so if you connect four devices you have to divide that by 4.

In other words you're looking at 700 milliamps maximum per device.

Most devices when not fast charging charge at 2 amps.

you need to be very careful if you experience excessive voltage drop you can actually damage the devices that you're charging.

Personally I would probably go the 12 volt route since it's a 15 amp connection. You can buy a 12 volt splitter relatively cheap. Then you can use those 12V mobile phone chargers.

I have a 2020 Silverado and was unfamiliar with what my SD card slot was for, lol .  So reading above it appears that I can put music on it to play in my truck.  Does it have other uses ?  Thanks
