GCWR vs TWR

On my 2020 GMC Sierra 3500 Crew Cab Gas the tow sticker specs shows the max gooseneck/fifth wheel trailer weight to be 16,400lbs.  However the GCWR shows 24,000lbs.  The GVWR is 11,350lbs.  Why does it say 16,400lbs max trailering when 24,000 minus 11,350 is 12,650lbs?  Maybe I'm missing something here.

GVWR is truck weight + payload.  GCWR is truck weight + trailer weight + payload.  The trailer will use a lot of the available payload for the tongue in a 5th/goose.  So you're pretty much left with the truck and the trailer.  Most HD trucks, regardless of brand, are in the 7000-8000 pound range.  That's why your maximum trailer weight is 16,400:

24,000 total - 16,400 trailer = 7600 truck weight.  That's assuming driver-only and no truck cargo.  If you've got your family and some gear in the cab, you have to subtract that from your maximum trailer allowance.

...and also take into account the trailer being loaded as well, with water, food, etc when buying one.  You get one close to the max weight, and you can't take anything else with you without going over.
