Hello gang!  First post.

I searched but couldn't find much information surprisingly.  I just bought a 2020 Sierra SLT Crew X31 at the end of April.  LOVE it so far...but I was replacing a 2005 Ford Expedition so it was a pretty big upgrade in technology. ha

My SLT does not have GM navigation, only through Android Auto which is really nice.  Anyway, is the SD card slot in the console only for navigation applications?  Can it be used to view pictures on an SD card?  Videos on an SD card?  I hunt and run trail cameras so just curious if I could view the pictures on my truck.  Not a big deal if not, just trying to get an understanding of what the slot is used for.  Couldn't really find anything in the owners manual either.  Thanks all and I look forward to learning a LOT no this forum!

I would imagine just music but I'm not actually sure tbh. Never used mine

Same. I doubt you can put pictures in there but i could be wrong.

Navigation is a picture isn't it? Why not put a picture sd card in and try it.

It is, but the infotainment system might not be able to process it.

Agreed seems like in the last model they were watching videos and pictures thru the sd card slot. The big thing was to run the movie while driving.

Video capabilities went out with the CD slot.

That's probably why no more overhead video screens, and now separate monitors built into headrests. Before upgrading to the Nav I put some music albums on a SD and they played just fine. Nav card does not contain pictures or videos in any of the standard formats.......only readable by the ('19) IOT radio or the IOS radio head after the BIOS has been upgraded by software installed by GM to provide Nav operating capability.

It is for the Navigation software. I have NAV and that is what is on the SD card.

Not sure it works for anything else however.

Hope that helps.

I was hoping it would work for viewing trail cam pictures but from what I have read it doesn't work for that...I haven't made it back to the lease with this pandemic to try it out yet.

Cool.  Yeah I'm kind of scared to just stick a SD card in it that has pictures on it.  Don't want to screw anything up you know. :)

Unlike the previous K2s with CD slot , the '19s regardless IOR/IOS/IOT won't play videos *mpeg or show pictures *jpeg but will play audio *.mp3 files....nor will the USB or mini USB ports using a flash drive.....the SD port is on the USB hub and basically operates like another USB port.....probably the only reason why an SD card was chosen over a flash drive for the NAV was because it is basically hidden/out of the way and the card is physically locked in place during operation.

On mine, with the SD Nav card removed or if you try to activate the Nav or if you try to operate when the vehicle is off and profile hasn't booted, it will default to OnStar and ask for a signup to OnStar for the feature and continue to screw it up until the vehicle is turned off and gone through the timeout delay.....and then with the SD card in at startup will go through the normal Profile/bootup and factory Nav restored with no ill effects.

I have music on mine and works great.  Sync with with Windows media player, and you are good to go!

Can you tell me how you formatted the card?  I used exFAT and it won't work.

Thanks!

Thanks!

You will need to format it FAT32.  Just FYI I have also done the same thing with a thumb drive and that works also.

Any one know why I can get the MP3 file to play through the USB but the same file will not play correctly in the SD card in the slot. The SD will play but the first song it plays is stuck in the display and will never change no matter what song is playing.
