Wheel hub replaced but breake on drive side makes a grinding noise

Hello everyone,

recently I finished reinstalling my wheel hub assembly on the left side on my 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 z71 off road crew cab and whenever I spin the wheel, it makes a grinding noise and it does this for both forward and reverse any ideas on what could cause this?

You installed it wrong?  brake shield is rubbing somewhere? bad parts?

9 times out of 10, the rusty dust shield got bent towards the rotor during the job ... provided everything was installed correctly.

It’s somewhat gouged the rotor at the top facing the wheel

Ahh, something is not installed correctly, or you have the wrong parts installed. Could be due to the new hub, or could be due to the brake caliper bracket, or rotor. Something is not aligned correctly. Was this happening with the wheels on and lug nuts torqued down? Without the wheel on, the rotor can wobble around and sometimes contact the caliper bracket.

 

Was all the rust removed completely before the hub was installed?

 

If the rotors were re-used, you'll have to strip, hammer, scrape, file - whatever you need to do to remove ALL the rust from the inside mounting surfaces.

I found out that the wheel hub was defective

For everyone's information, what brand was the hub bearing?

 

I understand things happen in manufacturing, but if we can weed out the crappy components, we'll all be better off. I'm a big proponent for calling out companies that produce garbage.

 

Case in point - I'm ordering hub bearings myself today. I installed Moog ones less than 30k miles ago. I don't drive the truck much, so they've sat, but that shouldn't mean a failure prior to 30k! Won't be buying Moog hub bearings again. SKF has proven to be pretty good still. Timken used to be - not sure today.
