Trailer backup cam option for base (single) camera trucks?

So I've pretty much figured out that my truck does not have the 270 or 360 view, and the trailer cam will not work. Bummer, I assumed that since I had the connections on the truck, trailer controller and app it would be setup for cam as well - I bought it off the lot, and that is the only option I would have added.

I would have loved to have the invisible cam, but the biggest issue is my wife stinks at spotting me back, and I often need to back my 24 foot enclosed car hauler or 21 foot camper. I looked at adding the wireless setup with a screen, but then as I researched, I found this option:

I assume I should be able to use that, put it on the camper and unplug the tailgate cam when I hookup?

I need to research a bit more, how hard is it to get to the tailgate plug?

That camera is for the old body style.  Not going to work.

Do you have the factory 5th wheel/gooseneck prep package in your truck?

Thanks, may have to wait for new style then. I do not have 5th wheel package or cam, just the single rear tail gate. Looking like I'll just do the wireless add on for now.

Been there with the backing.  Would you consider just going with an old school wireless mount  with dedicated video screen setup?

im going to try and build an under-dash cubby that will hold or mount a rear view camera screen.

yep - that is how I went - picked up a furrion bracket and 7" wireless kit for the camper. Was sad to learn my truck did not support the trailer cam, but is what it is as they say!
