I don't think I posted in here yet, but yes, I do have it, but only if I don't run Premium fuel. And it is all the time, but only really noticeable while taking off. If you listen for it on the highway, you can hear it. But when you are taking off from a stoplight, you WILL hear it.

i have a little tick tock at startup. Some times last up to 1 minute idling in 60*-70* and sometimes up to about 3 minutes in lower temps just idling. But seems to go away after driving 1/8 mile or so. I have changed the oil with 5 quarts synthetic and 1 quart lucas about last 10 oil changes. Doesnt seem to help. Ive heard that this is very common with the 5.3 engine in 2003 and before trucks. Some even say it does it at the dealership. I gotta a question though.. Im nearing an oil change and ive noticed the pressure dropping to almost the red section on the oil gauge when idiling, and 40 when accelerating no matter how hard im driving. It usually is in the 60 range when cruising at 70mph. Is that normal for the last stretch of an oil change?

Yes I had with this truck tryed to get the dealer to resolve it, started at about 50K, fianlly i got it resolved, sold it and Bought a Dodge with a HEMi. LOL

2002 GMC 4x4 5.3L long bed auto

This truck started doing the vortech knock every morrning for about 3 blocks on my way to work, and every evening on my way home from work for about 3 blocks, it started this at about 50,000 miles the dealer called it the Vortech knock. Spent about $500 trying there recomended fixes, nothing worked. Got rid of the truck at 60K. The truck always had to set, fir several hours before it would do it again.

My 2008 CC 2wd with the 5.3 just started doing it on start up. First time it sounded pretty bad and lasted for about 3 minutes, with the sound diminishing as the truck warmed up. It hasn't done it as bad again, but I can hear the "piston slap" on start up. I'm going to wait and see if the Texas winter causes it to get worse. If it does, then I'll have the dealer work on it.

I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 with a 5.3L. I bought the truck used about a year ago and now the truck has 46,000 miles on it. A few weeks ago i noticed a tick coming from the engine, you can here the tick in the truck and u can really hear the tick when you are under the truck. The tick is not as loud when i first start it up in the morning, but after the engine warms up the tick becomes louder. I have also found that while i am driving on the freeway the tick gets very loud when i take my foot off the gas and coast, and i can not really hear it as loud while i am accelerating. I use Valvoline 5w30, and am not really a hard driver. Ive tried different cleaners and stuff and nothing is working. Do u have any idea what it could be or anything that i could try to get rid of the tick?

Mine has been doing this exact thing for about 6 months and it is really getting on my nerves. I have seafoamed it a couple of time but this hasn't helped. I took it to the dealer and they told me some BS about it being the sound of the exhaust going through the pipes. My engine has also develpod a very pronounced knock on one of the cylinders that i can hear and feel when holding the spark plug wire.

If you figure out what this is let me know.

I have read if you run premium gas it will most likely diminish? Any thoughts on this, I am running near a 1/4 and would hate to pay an extra .20 cents for nothing(lol), thought I'd check here.

That's not true, it's going to happen no matter what gas you use.

If you use diesel, it will stop knocking very quickly.

my 2004 sierra 5.3 w/ 47k does not knock but my civic does have the piston slap but only when it's cold outside then it goes away when warmed up, bought it w/ 67k and now has 177k with zero issues. It's a very common issue in honda's but they keep on running.
