Would appreciate any opinions on remanufactured (vs new) caliper brackets. I've been having squeeling from one rear brake after about 10,000 miles after brake job . Taking it apart I found the pads wedged pretty hard in the caliper bracket show slide slots. After I got the shoes out I found the slide grooves in the brackets severely corroded and the stainless show inserts can't sit properly due to the uneven surfaces. I'm guessing it will be less aggrevation to replace the brackets rather than hope to get them true using a file or grinder. It's pretty tight spaces in the grooves and I don't know if tolerances are critical or not.

So the question, does anyone have experience with remanufactered brackets? A name that comes up is Cardone, but it seems that many parts stores have some generic bracket or other that they sell.

The remanufacturer ones run $20-30 and the oem run $55-$65, so $35 bucks difference each.

I've sold tons of remans at my part time job, they would work just fine.

They are pretty much stock cores that get worked over and sold again. Sometimes a new caliper with bracket is the same cost or only $20-30 less than just a bracket.

I think you meant "more" than?

Unless you somehow bent the caliper bracket, I would just clean it up, first with a wire wheel to get the rust out of the grooves where the stainless inserts go, and if it's still tight after that, then hit them with a file.

Thanks. They are pretty bad. They were cleaned up once and now the screeching is back.  Our state takes no responsibility for rusting out car undercarriages with aggressive winter road  chemicals. Their answer to complaints is that the residents should get cars washed.....in the winter, right?  We pay 10 cents tax for each plastic grocery bag to save the enviroments but it's ok for all those chemicals to go on the road and drain off into the environment. This is worse than the 60's for corrosion.

For 25 bucks I'd rather replace them and start over with clean surfaces.

You could clean up and file the ones you have and then paint them to help prevent a relay of the issue.  That spot should be lightly greased with high temp brake grease as well.  If that wasn't done, or done with the wrong grease, it may have contributed to the return of your issue.
