I have a tri-axle 5th wheel toy hauler I installed the correct tpms sensors in. going down the road it looses signal sometimes to the rear or center axle wheels. Upon questioning my dealer I was told they only have a range of 23 feet from the back bumper of my truck. 23 feet reaches the front of my center axle tires.  I did not find this information on the GMC accessory website when ordering the sensors or in the owners manual. If this is correct it should be disclosed when using the feature as a selling point.

 

has anyone had this issue and found a repeater or anyway to make the system work at a distance of over 23 feet?

I've been having issues with my 5th wheel as well.  I haven't tried to troubleshoot yet, but I am going to check the receiver behind the license plate to see if there is a way to add a bigger/better antenna.  I wish there was a booster available to put on the trailer like TST systems have.

I also ran the TST system with external sensors and a repeater for approximately 10 years with no major issues. You would think GM could come up with a compatible repeater.

I just ordered the TireMinder Rhino booster for the helluvit.  It is 433 mhz, but they said it would not be compatible.  However, there is no "learning" or other pairing to do, so I am hoping it will sync.  Amazon, so I will return it if it does not work.

Didn't work.  Manufacturer website and their answer to a question on Amazon said 433 mhz. Opened the package and printed right on the unit was 433.92 mhz...

I called Rhino tech support and they said in the near future (?) there were thinking of making a repeater for the GM vehicles to help people that need a repeater.

This isn't necessarily helpful to your thread but I wanted to say thanks!

This week I'm jumping two feet into a high-tech truck and 5th wheel combo and had a panic attack at the RV dealer over all this stuff.

Glad to see i'm not crazy. 

I didn't get a loaded LTZ to stick a bunch of 3rd party screens all over my windshield haha.... looks like i've got my work cut out for me between moving the camera ports to the bed, wiring my own GM camera(s) and getting the GM TPMS to work.

I work for a GMC dealership. It has been a frustrating experience for me with no help from GM. If it is further than 23' to any of the tires on your trailer from your back bumper, I don't know if I would waste the money like I did having the sensors installed., They will work but keep dropping signal. When they drop signal you get an error message on the dash you have to keep dismissing. If someone comes up with a compatible repeater I'm sure it will solve this issue. My aftermarket TST system worked fine. I had a 2019 before the 2020 and one of the main reasons I  stepped up to a 2020 was the improved technology features which in my opinion were misrepresented by General Motors.

I wonder if extending the receiver out closer to the trailer would work.  

 

So for example, get a 13314098 pigtail for the trailer TPM module in the bumper, add say 10ft of wiring to that (accounting for turns and mounting) pigtail and splice it into the truck harness, then mount the sensor on the trailer so its closer to the axles. 

 

Ideally, finding the matching end to that connector would work the best so it could then just be a removable jumper harness instead of having to cut the end off the truck side and splice.

I was rooting around the GM sites and came across this interesting tid bit on the TMPS materials and some part numbers. If this helps or you do extend the TMPS unit behind the rear license plate let us know on the effective range. Please do not forget if you relocate the unit it may also affect the front tires. But you were wondering the part numbers this illustration may help on those part numbers at your local dealer. According to this information you would only need 4 wires. 2 were polarity and 2 are the LAN signals.

The truck's TPM sensors don't operate through the Trailer TPM module.  They communicate to the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver, so moving the trailer TPM module should pose no effect on the truck's sensors.  

 

The connector end you've pulled up is the one that plugs into the module, yes.  The hard part is finding the opposite end to that connector (aka a connector end that matches the trailer TPM module) to then make a removable jumper harness.  Sure, you could clip the truck side connector, get this pigtail and wire in an extension, but that would be a PITA when you go to hook and unhook the trailer.

Ok I do have a antenna for the remote control door lock antenna. This is physically located adjacent to the trailer TMPS module. I also have the connector for the antenna. If anyone has the wiring info this would help. There is 2 wires that feed to this antenna I could use a DVM and  get polarity on the existing wiring. I was wondering what would happen IF I parallel  both antennas with the second antenna located on the trailer? I would locate it about 12 feet back from the bumper. This in  theory would or maybe extend the signals. Anyone here knows? Is the wiring only a + and - polarity OR is it signal related wire feeds signals? New Dude you have any info?

That is only for the keyless entry.  Its the antenna to passive open the tailgate.  Has nothing to do with TPM systems, both for the truck and the trailer.

    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here. 
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken. 
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
