Hello GM-Trucks,
I'm looking for a used 2014+ 5.3, 4WD, Crew, Short-bed.  Some lifted trucks pop up in my search.  I'd take a 3.5" lift with 33" tires without question but I'm seeing a few on 35" tires.  They look great but I'm concerned with MPG as this will be my Daily Driver with mostly in town diving.

What kind of MPG can be expected from a 5.3L 4WD Crew lifted enough to accommodate  35"s?  Most have 20" wheels.

As side note there's also a beautiful LTZ with 6.2L  9" lift on 37"s listed.  I didn't even bother to inquire about it but I can't stop looking at it.

Fuel economy is going to suck. Unless it's been regeared to 4.10 or 4.56 gears. Even still, more air getting under the truck throws off aerodynamics. The larger tires have more rotating mass to over come and stop. The larger tire itself is less aerodynamic, let alone if it's sticking out some or a more aggressive tread. If it hasn't been reprogrammed for the larger tire you can't trust the DIC  not that they are accurate in the first place. At best I'd expect 10mpg.

For what it's worth I have a crew cab 2016 with the 5.3/6L80e that is lowered a few inches. I drive 90% city about 10 miles a day and I can only get around 15-16mpg on 89 octane fuel. I do drive with a heavy foot sometimes but the all city mileage is not very good.

The lift and much heavier rim/tires is going to make it worse. I'd expect it to drop a few mpg with 35's.

I have a 2016 5.3 4x4 crew cab short bed.  I have a full stage 5 icon suspension with 285x70x17 ridge grapplers that gave me just over 3" of lift.  My milage went from 15.3 average to 11.7.   My driving is about 20 miles street driving daily.

I have a 2018 cc 5.3 6 speed 4x4 short bed lifted 7 inches with 22x12 with 35 inch ridge Grapplers. Granted I have a custom tune and long tube headers with no cats and a borla muffler. In town driving I get around 13 and have got 17 on the highway the truck still has the stock 3.42 gears.

These numbers almost make the 35"s look tempting.   Being in CA I'd probably keep it all stock engine and tune wise, cat-back would be OK.  Maybe I'll consider 35"s on 17" 18" wheels if the price is right.

Thanks for the feedback everyone

I have CAI and black bear performance tune. Mostly highway driving. Always use cruise control 70 - 80 MPH

Heh I wish I had a heavy foot...6 speed, 3.42 gears, chevy performance intake, chevy borla rear dual exhaust, Diablo intune 87 octane tune.  I've always seen everyone with magic milage and wondered how they got it.  My dad has a 2018 2wd 5.3 stock and gets 18 average...I'd love to know the secret for those with a lift and big tires getting that.

If you keep your foot out of it you can get decent mpg's.

I'm running a McGaughys 9" lift with 37" Ridge Grapplers and I get 15-16 mpg all day long. I also have the stock 3.42's with the six speed. I'm running a Superchips Flashpaq F5 tuner set to the performance tune running 92 octane. Borla S type catback exhaust.

I was expecting way worse.

I also use tow/haul always.

I should add that I do most of my driving on two lane blacktop 55mph. I leave it in 4th or fifth gear too. I only use 6th gear if I'm going over 65mph.

If I run 6th gear at 55mph I'm only turning around 1100 rpm. Barely breathing.

this is another good reason to find a truck with at least 3.73 gears, going to a taller 33-34" tire will probably bring you down to the highway effient 3.42 ratio

Has the truck been tuned for the new tire size?

I believe I gave BBP that info when I had the tune done.
