jason1198 Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Wanting to switch to 4.10s from stock 3.42 Truck is 4wd so doing both front and rear. Wondering what’s needed to do other than ring and pinion gear and what kind of brand is best
Bash74 Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 You can contact East Coast Gear Supply. They have been great to deal with. They will let you know what you need without you getting stuff you just don't need. Sent from my SM-G975U1 using Tapatalk
CamGTP Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Gears and bearings is pretty much it for parts. Wouldn't be a bad idea to get a better rear locker and not use the factory G80 anymore. Yukon gears are also another good place to buy stuff from.
truckguy82 Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 3.73 was offered from the factory with 6l80 max tow
M1ck3y Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 (edited) Yukon has a 3.73 for the 9.76, anything over that I would go with what bash74 said. Has something to do with fitting gears for the 9.5 into a 9.76. But as long as your rear end isn't a 9.76 you shouldn't have issues finding gears anywhere. Does anyone make a locker for the 9.76? I looked into it a little while ago but couldn't come up with anything. It would be nice if there was a truetrac that would fit. Edited October 14, 2020 by M1ck3y

They also had the 6l80, 6.2, 3.73 combo for the 2014 MY only in sierra/silverado Edited October 15, 2020 by truckguy82

I think the 14's had the 9.5. imo oem is the way to go, but 3.42 is the highest they have for the 9.76.

Also confirmed with numerous other posts in this forum. From what I understand all 6.2’s are 9.76 I have the 3.42. They did offer the 2014 only 6.2 with 3.73 gears with the max tow package. Which should mean in 2014 only, you can get a 9.76” diff with 3.73’s from the factory. unless of course for the 6.2 max tow they actually went to the 9.5” diff. Which would be strange Edited October 15, 2020 by truckguy82 1
truckguy82 Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 https://cdn.dealereprocess.net/cdn/brochures/chevrolet/2014-silverado1500.pdf gm advertisement, page 20, says they do infact have a 3.73 with a 9.76 more evidence it exists
truckguy82 Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 I present to you Oem 3.73’s for 9.76 https://www.justdifferentials.com/GM-9-76-K2-OEM-Ring-Pinion-Kit-3-73-Ratio-p/gm9.76k2-373-oe.htm

Maybe they stopped producing the part? I'll have to look into it Looks like I might be getting some 3.73's, lol. Edited October 15, 2020 by M1ck3y
Darksky Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 The improvement from 3.23 to 3.73 with tires that measure out just a hair under 35” is very good. The drive-ability improvement is great. I ran the numbers a while ago, with the swap, the truck performs as it would’ve with stock height tires if it had been equipped with a 3.46 ratio. This is just where the math calculations would’ve put the gearing. The truck runs much better- stoplight to stoplight. Any feeling of “lugging” is gone. Mileage picked up a bit for in city driving. Highway performance is back where it should be and the truck sees 8th gear much more often. All in all a great improvement without having to swap the internals down to the 9.5” set up.

Max tow should have 3.73 with 9.76 for 2014
