Can somebody please help me and tell me which aftermarket exhaust (cat back) system is most commonly used on these trucks with the 5.3L.

I was considering the Stainless Works Redline but really can’t find to much as far as reviews go on our trucks. (I was waiting for the Black Friday sale they said they were going to offer, but they decided not to offer one)

considering the American Thunder set up and I see a lot of Corsa positive reviews.
Borla S-type is in the running too

I had the Borla S-Type on my 2020 AT4 with 6.2L and loved it. No drone on the highway (the sound was noticeable but not annoying). Sounded great on start up and acceleration. 10/10 would do again.

I traded for a 21 3.0L or I would still have it. If I did another gas I would do it again. It was worth the extra expense over some other brands.

I have the Corsa cat back exhaust and absolutely love it. Has an outstanding growl when you start it up. Is really quiet when driving but when you accelerate it gets aggressive and loud.  But not annoying loud though. Also there is zero drone on the highway and I drive it all the time on highway running 70 mph or higher.

I also had Gibson on my 2018 and love that exhaust. Had a deep growl and zero drone. They just didn’t make the exhaust for standard bed truck. Just short box 5’10” box at the time.

Borla also makes a fantastic exhaust. I have never had them personally but they sound very nice. I would have gotten the S type if they had made the standard bed size exhaust for my truck. They only had the Touring exhaust for the standard bed at the time. GM performance exhaust is Borla’s Touring. Then S type is mid pack and Atak is very aggressive. My Corsa and my Gibson where the same tone as the S type

I had MagnaFlow on my SS Trailblazer and it had terrible drone, but also had it on my 97 C/K 1500 and it was nice. No drone on that truck.  But it never had any AFM/DFM these new truck have

My father has FlowMaster and it sounds nice but has terrible drone.

Good luck with your choice.

Thanks for help. I get more and more confused the more I read.

Anybody have the Stainless Works system or has heard it in person ?

I found one review on it here and the guy sent it back because of drone. Anybody else have first hand experience with their cat back set up ?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Honestly I think the safe bets are Corsa, Borla and GM Performance (made by Borla). Have heard people bitching about drone with every other system.

Really depends on what type of sound you’re after though. I like my GM Performance. It’s a little rowdy on cold starts but calms down nice. No drone either. I would say it’s on the mild end of the spectrum overall.

I had the GM Performance system on my 2019 AT4 5.3L. It’s not as aggressive as the Borla. I was told by the make ready manager at my store that the GM one has a huge resonator compared to the Borla S-Type. I would do either of those again. I did the Borla S-type over the GM one is I could get it cheaper. Both are great though but the Borla is more aggressive for sure.

The GMPP doesn’t have any resonators, maybe he meant muffler. Although I don’t think the muffler is that big either, not compared to the stock system.

I believe the GMPP is identical to the Borla Touring, so it is not as aggressive as the S-Type.

Maybe he meant muffler but he said the one from GM Performance is much bigger than the Borla S-Type. Both are much smaller than factory.

Another vote for the GM Performance Exhaust aka Borla Touring. LOVE mine.

If I were betting, the GMPE / Borla Touring would be the most installed cataback system on the T1s. Mainly due to GM selling it as optional add-on.

Thanks For the last minute input from everyone who offered it. Decided to go with the Corsa. Couldn’t find anything relating to the Stainless Works set up and was able to find a lot of positive feedback on the Corsa.  5-6 week build time before I see it. That’s ok by me, I’m sure it will be worth the wait. Thanks again for the help here.

Congrats. Hope you love it as much as I love mine.

Anybody have any experience with the rough country exhaust?

If you plan the keep the truck awhile, I would probably spend more. The RC is 409 stainless, so it’ll look like crap in a hurry and eventually rot out. Especially if you’re in the salt. The other brands in discussion use 304 which is a much more durable and better looking product. You get what you pay for.

Some salt not much, I'll keep it 4-5 years.  Honestly out of all the videos I've seen (which is hard to tell sometimes) I like the sound of it the best.  Not too aggressive

    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
    • Atlas, you kill me As aggravating as a project like this can be you have been unable to hide your fascination with learning and using that angst against this beast like a Ninjitsu Master. It amuses you, admit it now.      BTW, love your writing style. 😉
