Just curious now that the brand new models come factory w wireless CarPlay ... have we found a way to upgrade older year models? Like they did w navigation and CarPlay and android auto in trucks without by changing stereo modules?

ive got a top level slt version w all the stereo options... I know wireless CarPlay works off a mix of WiFi and Bluetooth...and my system has both modules....

any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated

I’m interested to hear how those work but I wonder if we can just replace a module in the system from a brand new truck, into mine and make it work...

I know folks have done this in other trucks .. with navigation ... or with wired CarPlay so I am sure it has to be able to be done

Not possible from a factory retrofit standpoint. All new hardware and communication bus.

@pgamboa who do you suggest for a complete upgrade... I have seen you post about a aftermarket company that has all the integrations ...

I also read somewhere that Pioneer is soon to be releasing a specific plug and play receiver for these GM’s built off there NEX entertainment lineup package... but I have no idea if they went thru w it, if it’s still happening and if it is, when it will be released

Wireless just came out for the T1 new body 2021, which have all new and different radios, modules and radio operating systems compared to K2 trucks 2014-2018.

There is a device in the aftermarket available:  CPLAY2air wireless adapter for factory CarPlay – CPLAY2air.com

I have the CPLAY2air in my truck and so far works very well. I tried it in my wife's Honda and it  worked well there also. Its about the size of a business card and i leave it in the center console and my phone stays in my pocket. I am going to order another one for my wife.

Does this work with Android Auto or Carplay only?

I bought that (CPLAY2air) and I was unimpressed.
Too long of a boot time and my audio was degraded as well as response time.
Otherwise, it  well ... just worked.
I wasn't happy, I stayed with plugging the iPhone in.
Has there been an update recently?

Was the audio worse then just using Bluetooth?

I just received the carplay2air unit Friday. After using it all weekend I have not noticed any music issues- it works great. Simple set up

i modified the armrest for wireless charging with an Apple MagSafe charger set the phone there and it automatically connects to the truck and brings up CarPlay. Have not noticed any lag etc.

Yes, the audio seemed degraded.
Great information and feed back, thanks!
I'll give the device another try.
Much appreciated! :)

Had a chance to check mine, tested boot time 25 seconds from engine start to carplay on screen. Audio quality I am not a good judge, but swapping between cable and device I cannot tell any difference. No lag that I notice. It is a crazy price for a usb dongle, but for  the short hops that I usually drive it is very convenient. Checked my firmware version     ver:2020.11.10.2137
