Anyone have a part number for the strut that holds up the rear storage bin’s lid, which is also the cargo area floor?

No, don’t need that. Online GM parts websites don’t show it. Some sites show the storage accessory as a whole, but doesn’t list the strut as a separate purchase item/part number.

Part comes back as a "hinge-load."  Maybe not the right part?  Where did you find that part number?  "Hinge" may not be right.  "Load" well, yes it supports a load, so maybe its right?  No accompanying photos across any websites I've checked, so not sure if I'll take a chance on it just yet.

Brand appears to be AVM.  APY22145 is listed on the left and 1024 on the right.  Couldn't find any info on those numbers, or AVM, online. 

 

I'm thinking maybe the previous owner replaced the OEM strut with this one, and it's not correct.  It doesn't "appear" to be worn out, but definitely won't hold up the lid.  So maybe the weight is wrong.

 

I measured the strut from ball to ball at 12.8"  Closest I could find online was 12.5" with a 24 lbs force.  Installed it, and also does not support the weight of the lid.

 

I couldn't find a 12.5" with a heavier force. 

 

Next length up is 13" but is also 24 lbs.  Moving the lid, appears 13" would fit.  But if it too is 24 lbs, not sure the extra 0.2" will make any difference.

 

I see some longer lengths that have a force of 70 lbs, but think that's way too much.  At 24 lbs, it seems like I'd need maybe another 10 or 20 lbs to make it work.

Found another site which shows "gasoline strut" in the description.  Awesome, I'll get it on order.

Tried to order that part from GMPartsGiant but found out it’s discontinued and no longer available. 

I believe the failed one in my truck is an aftermarket one, so taking measurements on it isn’t reliable. If anyone has the storage box and has time to measure, would you please let me know the length of the OEM strut both fully open and fully compressed? I wish there was some way of telling how many pounds the OEM one is...

I'm running into the same issue on my 2018 Suburban.

 

I pulled the unit (APY22145) and since it's the same P/N as CS15DAH had, I think that is an OEM part.  Overall the length between pivots is 12.6" and the closed length is 8.8".  This means the stroke is 3.8".  Based on my measurements, the actual stroke needed to close is around 3", so there's some flexibility.  It uses a 10mm ball mount, which seems very common.  I have a quick drawing below.

 

I found a couple of options on Amazon.

 

The first is by BOXI and have almost identical dimensions.  Lifting force is 36#, which is about 12# more than the ones CS15DAH found in the post above, which is the lower-end of what they thought was needed.  They come as a 2-pack for about $20.

The second is by Pamagoo.  They are about 1/2" shorter (12.2"), have a longer stroke (4.7") for the 35# version.  They're available in 35#, 40#, 50# and 65# versions.  Some have slightly different lengths, but all have at least 3.5" of stroke.  They come in 2-packs and range from $18.50 to $22.

I think the 50# and 65# versions are probably overkill, and might not let the cover stay down.  My truck came with a WeatherTech cargo mat, so it'll have a little more weight.  I'm going to order a pack of the BOXI struts and see how it fares with and without the mat.

I received the 36# strut today and put it in.  It holds it up.....barely.  As in "only when it's all the way up, and without the cargo liner."  If I nudge it, the whole thing drops.

 

So, I reckon the 40# strut isn't going to cut it.  I'll be ordering a couple of the 50# units to see how they fare.

OE number is 84589073.  Its not discontinued or on backorder, any GM dealer can order it or you can get it right from GM's parts website now.  GM Genuine Parts Load Floor Compartment Cover Hinge | Product Search Results (gmparts.com)

This helped me so much… I bought the wrong size initially on Amazon and then did more research and found this thread… the #50 works perfect to hold up the door and extra rubber mat as you described. Thanks again for doing the homework for me!!!

    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled.     • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update  
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.  
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
    • I am curious as to how much fluid you put back in the transmission ( assuming you had replaced the filter to compare to my findings ) and then went through the process of warming up the trans before pulling the check plug to drain out the excess and if you measured how much came back out.    I just found it surprising that some claimed a certain amount less fluid being put in and then draining some back out. The attitude of the truck as per if the surface is level and how the trucks stance is would make quite a difference since the check plug is right at the front of the transmission.
