VNM28 Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 So I have a 2020 Silverado 2500HD and I just noticed today that every body panel has what looks to be rust spots. I can’t be the only one that has this. The truck is 7 months old with 8k miles.I bought it brand new with 11 miles on it and it was not like this before. Any one know what it could be or be caused by? Thank you in advance. 147829D5-2307-4735-AE39-78AA4A866A6C.MOV
TrailBoss1 Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 I can’t view the photo but sometimes, when transported by rail, vehicles accumulate iron particulates on the finish. Most detail companies, such as Adam’s, make products specifically to remove these particles. Without seeing pics I don’t know if this might be a possibility?https://adamspolishes.com/products/adam-s-iron-removerSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
VNM28 Posted March 6, 2021 Author Posted March 6, 2021 (edited) Thanks I’ll try to post the video again. Edited March 6, 2021 by VNM28
TrailBoss1 Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 Looks like it could be iron residue. Clay would work but I’m not sure if the iron particles would be abrasive to the finish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TrailBoss1 Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 Looks like you’re in Rehoboth beach, we have a home in Lewes. Could the salt air exacerbate the iron?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
99silveradoz71 Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 Rail dust as it's frequently referred to. My 08 blue granite had it, and the current ride does as well. Some tic in the spring with a clay bar should get those off.
C/K Man Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 I agree, rail dust. Careful use of a clay bar takes it right off. It's actually on just about every vehicle delivered by rail, but usually only visible on white and silver paint.
Toddsquad Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 my white 2021 also has this problem. I even had purchased the armor all protective coating they offered. will be paying the dealer a visit. I shouldn't have any spots like this with the special coating that was the sole reason for buying the package to protect the surface.
Toddsquad Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Update the dealership I bought the truck from said rail dust also. it will be taken care of under the warranty. I only have 2000 miles on mine
