My truck is riddled with stone chips after only 14k miles. (mostly on the door bottoms)  I have the OEM "wider" mud flaps on the truck now.  What mud flaps are people running that help keep the stones off the truck and also look halfway decent?  Are there other options for paint protection like clear bras?  Looking for tips/advice, thanks!

I like these and so far they are doing a great job, though its fair to point out I've only got about 6500 miles of mostly highway and city driving!

Are they like what you are running?

I use the Weather Tech No Drill on my 2015. They seem a few inches longer. No chips in 135,000 miles on my rockers. :dunno:

Might not be the answer you are looking for but this is one of the reasons I always have running boards on my truck. Some kind of flat ones not the nerf bar style or power ones. They protect the bottom of the truck better than a mudflap can. The other reason is that I am short and need them to get in ha ha.

The guy that had Pepper before me changed the mounts on the Rhino tube running boards to lower and set them back in a bit further under the truck. Combine with the longer Weather Tech flaps I  haven't had a single rocker chip yet in over 100K miles. Note. I NEVER drive on gravel...ever. I also run street tires and not A/T or dirt tires that like to 'pitch' rocks. So there's that. The GM flaps in the photos look really really short. Wide but short.

The reason I said not the nerf bar style was because when driving on a lot of gravel roads, the rocks from the front tires will hit the back of the bars where they turn in under the truck and ricochet up into the bottom of the truck removing all the paint  in that spot. Where as the flat ones don't allow that. I had a company truck with them once and there was no paint left right above the back part of the bar. About a 3 inch round area. I have never bought that style since. If you are not driving on any gravel then it wouldn’t matter. That is just not an option for me ha ha.

I would have never notice that. Thanks! I'll double down on the no gravel. 😉

I had same issue. I have mudflaps also but didn't help much. 

 

When new in 2019, less than 700 miles on it, I took it hunting and drove around 100 miles on gravel roads and the paint on the box in front of rear tires on the orange peel like paint " rock guard"  almost looked like they had been sandblasted. The dealer was great and took care of it under warranty.  In the fall of 2020 took a couple more hunting trips, maybe drove 150 miles of gravel and same thing happened along the bottom of both doors and a little bit of chipping along the on the rock guard again. Total miles on truck less than 8000. I hadn't drove any gravel since my 2019 hunting trip. Went back to the dealer and he said he saw only one other truck come in to the dealership with this issue. He had heard of a few GMCs having this chipping issue, not common to any certain color, and sounds like its rare but unfortunately I have one. They reported the issue with GM but GM said they haven't heard of this before and basically too bad for me.

 

My dealer is amazing. They easily could have told me it isn't their problem either, trucks over year old but they were concerned and worked with me on a solution.  I ended up having them remove the rock guard on the box, had everything on bottom half of doors and front of box repainted and had them apply 3m film over those same areas.  They did an excellent job and were very fair on the price. That was the best solution we could come up with besides trying to basically repaint the whole truck which would have been very spendy.

I've noticed guys around here who are using offroad regularly or on dirt/gravel roads and range land using Line-X from the door beltline down and around the wheel wells (with about the same coverage as wheel flares). Heck, some have even down their frontend done.

I installed the weathertech no drill mudflaps and they cover more than the GM version.   Happy so far with them.

    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!  
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?. 
    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature. All will pass the SII test but not all will pass the 100 C HTHS (unpublished value) testing the blender does and relies on to get the required by law "percentage improvement' referenced to his last great work.    Tis the problem with the lie. Once told others are required to support it. 
    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.

I usually set the parking brake (habit) when on flat ground for typical driving.    When backed down on the launch ramp to launch the boat and I place gear selector into Park, the parking brake activates automatically. My second nature is to set parking brake manually and noticed I was turing the parking brake off.  The parking brake appears to be setting itself automatically.   I looked all over my owner's manual and only found references to being on an incline and manually setting parking brake, or at times parking brake will be auto engaged, but nothing specific to my situation.    When is the parking brake automatically engaged?  Under what specific circumstances?  Can the auto set parameters be changed?     I like the auto set feature.  It would be nice if always engaged when shifted into Park and released when shifted out of Park (like my wifes 2025 RAV4).   Thanks!
